A high school student in Texas whose hobby was inventing thought he had a unique idea for a project: to build his own clock.
But the effort landed him in handcuffs and juvenile detention, accused of making a hoax bomb.
When Ahmed Mohamed, 14, brought the clock to MacArthur High School in Irving, Tex., on Monday, an engineering teacher suggested that he not show the invention to other teachers. But it beeped during an English class, prompting Ahmed to show his English teacher what it was, according to an account in The Dallas Morning News.
In a video posted on the newspaper’s website, Ahmed described how he was taken from school by the police. “They took me to a room filled with five officers,” he said. “They interrogated me, and searched through my stuff and took my tablet and my invention.”
He said he was fingerprinted, and mug shots were taken at a juvenile detention center.

He showed it to his engineering teacher first thing Monday morning and didn’t get quite the reaction he’d hoped for.
“He was like, ‘That’s really nice,’” Ahmed said. “‘I would advise you not to show any other teachers.’”
He kept the clock inside his school bag in English class, but the teacher complained when the alarm beeped in the middle of a lesson. Ahmed brought his invention up to show her afterward.
“She was like, it looks like a bomb,” he said.
“I told her, ‘It doesn’t look like a bomb to me.’”
The teacher kept the clock. When the principal and a police officer pulled Ahmed out of sixth period, he suspected he wouldn’t get it back.
They led Ahmed into a room where four other police officers waited. He said an officer he’d never seen before leaned back in his chair and remarked: “Yup. That’s who I thought it was.”

As a result, he said, no charges will be filed against Ahmed, and "the case is considered closed." He also said "the reaction would have been the same regardless" of the student's skin color.

1. proof terrorism works. look how scared we are, we can't even bring a clock to school.
2. this kid and others his age, acclimated muslims, might start to be curious as to what the big fuss is about, maybe those jihadists aren't so bad.

have any of these articles shown a picture of his clock yet? I'm just curious what it actually looks like to cause this much of a fuss.

I don't think it is really necessary to put the kids picture out there.

This sounds like one of those deals where everyone looks like fools for doing this, ut if the kid said it was a clock, and the teaacher said, "ok, no biggie", and it was a bomb those same people screaming are still screaming.

Maybe he used a pressure cooker as the base?

I mean, it was a digital clock, which I guess could look like the exterior of a bomb...in hollywood.
But why put a 70 lb. kid in handcuffs and throw him in jail? His teacher knew he had it and was fine with it.

His parents must be geniuses. If I were Muslim and had a son named Ahmed I would hope that I would forbid him to take a homemade clock to school.

Yep. It is a no win situation. Sadly, they did what they had to do.

Looks like the clock ran out on his education.

It appears this was taken wayyyy to far, but the clock must of looked particularly suspicious if one teacher suggested that he not show the invention to other teachers. I mean, what other reason could there be other than it looked "bombish". It's not like a teacher is going to be like "hey, I really appreciate your clock, but maybe you shouldn't shot the other teachers, because they all tend to be anti-clock".

Ignorant Texas reactionaries...Jade Helm gonna get ya!

holding judgement until I see the clock. Who took that pic of him? That has to be illegal being under age right?
