The Football Association has revealed Paul Pogba is suspended for Manchester United's opening Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The midfielder joined United from Juventus for £89m in the early hours of Tuesday morning and there had been speculation he could make his debut against the Cherries despite taking a holiday in the United States following France's Euro 2016 final defeat to Portugal and only starting pre-season training this week.

However, his name has appeared on a list of four players tweeted out by the FA as suspended for this weekend, including his United team-mate Chris Smalling.

Pogba's one-match ban is a result of yellow cards he received whilst playing for Juventus.

Yea I had no idea a yellow card accumulation ban can transfer over from different leagues.

That's dumb. It's a new league and a new season.

Ah apparently it was standard stuff for Luis Suarez, though. And so of course you're surprised when it happens to one of your own.

So Suarez had a yellow card accumulation at Ajax that transferred with him when he went to Liverpool, causing him to miss his potential debut?

quote:

On 31 January 2011, Suárez signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with Liverpool until 2016,[62][68] and was the club's most expensive signing (£22.8 million) until the arrival of Andy Carroll (£35 million) a few hours later.[69] Suárez requested the number seven jersey, but at the time did not realise that it had been worn by Liverpool legends such as his new manager Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan.[70] Suárez made his Liverpool debut on 2 February against Stoke City at Anfield in a 2–0 win; he came on as a substitute and scored Liverpool's second goal in front of the Kop in the seventy-nine minute.

Wait, nope, that didn't happen. Suarez got suspended by FIFA at the beginning of his Barcelona career for BITING SOMEONE ON CAMERA AT THE WORLD CUP. So if that's what you're referring to...

Again, I didn't know this could happen to anyone, having a yellow card suspension travel with him to another league.

So, no, I didn't think this was "standard stuff for Luis Suarez," and I have no idea what you're talking about.

FIFA banned Suarez from international play. From Uruguay matches.

FA gave him a 10-match ban for what he did in a Uruguay shirt, not a Liverpool shirt.

Don't be snarky.

Trying to compare a repeat violent conduct offender who was warned over and over, to yellow card accumulation

The English FA did? When? I remember him getting a long ban for the Evra incident and the Ivanovic bite, but those happened in league play.

You know what? I'm the frickhead here. I'm getting my Suarez bite bans all mixed up. The Ivanovic bite was the FA. The Chiellini bite was indeed FIFA. Sorry for the mixup.

But anyway, regarding Pogba I agree with you. I think it's bullshite that Pogba is getting punished by the FA.
