-All applicants are being considered for the same position and are on a level playing field.
-You ask each applicant the same question.
What do you ask them?

To find out about organization skills: "describe for me how you manage your workflow and stay on top of tasks."
I like to hear that they use calendar objects and alerts prodigiously, prioritize items and plan as needed, and that they have some kind of note-taking system.
Even if it's yellow stickies, something to show they're not just doing whatever's on the top of their head/inbox at any given moment.

I would ask the applicant to define the word "work." I used this for many years and it was truly effective. I witnessed a few seemingly qualified folks almost break down due to their inability to communicate and think on their feet.
