Should exit polls and reporting party votes prior to polls closing be illegal ?

I look at some of this information and think we shouldn't have it until after the polls close. I think it clouds our elections and gives a scorecard of sorts for both parties to monitor. Just let people vote and see what happens. We always have to have everything NOW.
I don't mind reporting voter turnout without party affiliations.

This is america, exit polling should absolutely not be censored speech.

I don't see why not. I am glad that the media changed the way they call states after Bush/Gore, but I don't have a problem with exit polls.

I like the way the Brits do it. They have a reporting blackout until results start coming in.

Yes. We don't NEED to know before the polls close. What purpose does it serve to post exit numbers? They don't mean anything. My opinion is that no official results are posted until all the polls close. Alaska and Hawaii may need to vote from midnight till 4:00 pm on Election Day.

Ethically it's problematic to post them early. That's an institutional issue though.
But it's speech and it should not be illegal. That's fundamentally against one of our primary principles as a nation.

Absolutely not. Exit polling is an invaluable tool for monitoring the legitimacy of elections.

This is how most of our major media entities function. At least with regard to actual candidate voting.
We'll release turnout+priority data earlier than poll closing, which I'm fine with.
