Tebow had good Series against Asheville Tourists

Tourists just finished a three game series against the Fireflies, going 1-2. Didn't see any of the games, they were played in Columbia, SC. Tebow went 4 for 10 against the Tourists raising his BA to .245. His OPS is a respectable .725.

I'd love to meet the person who decided that Tourists was a good name for a sports team. Most pathetic sports team name ever.

Its really not that bad. In Jacksonville I grew up with LA dodgers Double-A team, The Jacksonville Suns. Then the Suns became the Miami Marlins minor-league club, and they changed them to the "Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp". Man frick the Marlins organization.
Then you got the Lansing Lugnuts, and The Albaqurqie Isotopes. But FWIW Baby-cakes is still the worst

It's almost as if minor league baseball team names are supposed to be a joke, and I just don't get it.

In the Sally League (South Atlantic League) in addition to the Tourists, you have the Hickory Crawdads, the Savannah Sand Gnats, the Greensboro Grasshoppers just to name a few.

I'm still surprised that Hickory can support a minor league team. I'm guessing the Gastonia Grizzlies (lower level cape cod type league) outdraws them.

I've been to a few Tourists games in Hickory. Never a big crowd, 1000 max.

Minor league names are supposed to be lame, and some carry deep roots. The Asheville Tourists is essentially the same as the Arkansas Travelers, is it not?

Thats the best part about the minors. The teams and marketing does not take themselves seriously. The promotions are awesome

The Isotopes is an awesome name. I'm just still pissed at the owners for leaving Springfield.
