Motel 6 on Airline loses flag

From a local news source:
The Motel 6 on Airline Hwy in Baton Rouge has lost its flag as a Motel 6 and will become an Independent hotel. When the number is dialed, folks are greeted by a recording letting them know that Motel 6 is having phone difficulties and offering to route them to the Motel 6 call center to rent a room. Owner RKJ Patel says his motel is a fine establishment with a great warm atmosphere and wide breakfast offering and knows nothing about why Motel 6 would pull his franchising.
Folks wanting to stay in a fleabag Motel 6 will now have to go to the one on Siegen. When they leave the light on, the roaches start to run.

Maybe you aren't familiar with the demographics of the OT.

Mr. Patel is playing coy.

I'm curious as to why a Motel 6 would pull a franchise short of nonpayment.
They didn't do it to the one in Jackson where the nationally ranked fisherman got shot and killed.

While we're on the subject...
Is there some sort of Indian mafia that runs the hospitality industry?

There was something else I read in the news article about the owner saying he had never seen a police car at the motel either, but now I can't find that article.

Sweet, I bet I can reserve a room during my next vacation to Baton Rouge for real cheap now that I don't have to pay extra for the Motel 6 name.

I worked in the hotel industry for over 10 years and did not encounter a person with the last name Patel, nor a large amount of Indians. There are the hotels and the shitty run motels that cater to two totally different class of people.
Also, it's got to be pretty damn bad for a motel 6 to pull the flag.

1) How is this news? Slow day in BR?
2) A chain does not just "pull" a flag. Unless something horrific happened (which everyone would know about) it's only after a long list of issues.
3) How bad must it be for Motel 6 to pull a flag?
4) The 1 and 2 star hotel chains are dominated by indians (dot not feather)

Short answer yes. I can tell you about the guys I have a relationship with. They form business associations, they have meetings, and work among each other to help each other out. If a Patel would like to buy or build a hotel they rarely finance with traditional methods. (bank, etc) They usually would borrow from the others in the association or owner finance with the previous Patel owner. They form tight knit groups and they love the hospitality industry.
I have been to dinners with the local association of Patel's because of a vendor relationship. I even have a friend that was gifted a small Quality Inn from his dad as a marriage present.
All in all, every Patel I know and I know quite a few, love the opportunity they are afforded in this country. Some like this guy might not take of business, but most do.
