Looking to play soccer somewhere in Baton Rouge. Have absolutely no experience playing, but would still like to. Any recommendations? TIA

Look up the LSU pick up soccer group on Facebook. They arrange games almost every day, usually somewhere around LSU. Will be more active once school starts soon though.

Is it required to be somewhat good? I can't imagine I'm any good at all

Baton Rouge Soccer Club or Capital City United should have a beginner league.

As a keeper, I try to follow these rules when playing small-sided pick up games, yet I always end up playing on the wings. It's like everyone enjoys watching my out-of-shape arse try to get up and back. Don't they know my job is just to stand still?

Gah, I miss playing every day out there with that group. I'm so out of shape now.
I wonder if we've played out there together.

Yep.
People of all different skill levels.
We usually either play on the parade grounds or at the intramural complex on river road.
They also have pickup games at Burbank park a lot.

I remember playing pickup a couple times at LSU and there were always some douches playing "goalie" in front of the small goals that aren't meant to have goalies. Do people still do that?

It'll still happen from time to time unfortunately.
Most times somebody will tell the guy something though.

Cops got called on us one time by one of the BRSC coaches (he was pissed because it had rained and we were tearing up the field).
That was a funny sight to witness

Pretty sure I was out there when that happened

I graduated in 2011 but basically started the group. It's gotten bigger since I left LSU.
