A long time ago, it would have been something to be proud of, but the way we schedule now, it's no big deal. When the only OOC home games you play are rent-a-wins, winning a lot of them in a row doesn't mean much. We haven't played a ranked OOC team at home since West Virginia seven years ago, have we? I'm not even sure they were ranked at the time and, even if they were, they join Virginia Tech ten years ago as the only ranked non-conference opponents we have played at home in over 20 years, dating back to Texas A&M in 1994. Until the Wisconsin loss last year, our regular season OOC win streak was impressive because we had played a lot of good teams away from home, but this home OOC win streak is garbage, and will continue to be until we start playing decent teams at home again. Unfortunately, that is also when it will end.

WKU in 2015 is the best non-conference home opponent in a decade. Even WVU in 2010 finished unranked.

Here is that streak (major conference teams in bold, ranked teams in bold and underlined), since the home loss to UAB in 2000:

2001: Tulane, Utah State, Middle Tennessee State
2002: Citadel(FCS), Miami-Ohio, UL-Lafayette
2003: UL-Monroe, Western Illinois(FCS), Louisiana Tech
2004: Oregon State(7-5), Arkansas State, Troy
2005: North Texas, Appalachian State (FCS)
2006: UL-Lafayette, Arizona(6-6), Tulane, Fresno State
2007: #9 Virginia Tech (11-3, finished #9), Middle Tennessee State, Tulane, Louisiana Tech
2008: Appalachian State (FCS), North Texas, Tulane, Troy
2009: UL-Lafayette, Tulane, Louisiana Tech
2010: #22 West Virginia (9-4, finished unranked), McNeese (FCS), UL-Monroe
2011: Northwestern State (FCS), Western Kentucky
2012: North Texas, Washington(7-6), Idaho, Towson State(FCS)
2013: UAB, Kent State, Furman(FCS)
2014: Sam Houston St.(FCS), UL-Monroe, New Mexico State
2015: Eastern Michigan, Western Kentucky
2016: Jacksonville State(FCS), Southern Mississippi
2017: UT-Chattanooga(FCS), Syracuse(2-2)

49 games:

Ranked: 2 (at the time they played), 1 finished ranked
Power 5 not ranked: 4 (at the time they played), 5 finished unranked
Combined record of the SIX major conference opponents: 42-26

FBS mid-major: 32
FCS: 11

Six wins over P5 teams, one which finished ranked, in 14+ years. Pounding your chest about that is like proudly wagging a 3-inch cock.

It would be nice to get and inn fairness. The way the current scheduling is going in college. If you do have a big non-conference opponent, that game most likely will be in neutral territory. Miami, Wisconsin (twice), Oregon. Our biggest gabs lately get scheduled in a kickoff classic and I doubt we are going to add a second big opponent each year just so we can have a big name at tiger stadium.

They aren't playing 43 out of 49 games against mid-majors and FCS.

We played only six major conference opponents, two of them ranked at the time, only one that finished ranked, in fourteen seasons. And at the same time, LSU has been soaking season ticket holders for ever-increasing mandatory "donations" and ticket prices, not even to mention the charges for parking, tailgating spaces, etc. That might have flown during the greatest sustained period of success in program history, but I suspect it won't now that those days are over.

It's a good stat, but way way overrated.

With only a few exceptions like 10 years ago, we play all the good teams at neutral sites.

I think the big thing is the since the West Virginia game in 2011, the boys have not been on the road in a hostile environment against a quality opponent. So this may not be super impressive to some since our OOC is year in and year out soft....which could be a big problem come SEC time because we are not battled tested.
