Did you participate in these as a young person?

Have any CSB's regarding either?

Would/do you let your kids participate these days?

I was involved in both regularly (bottle rockets every Fourth and New Year's, BB gun a few times during summers). Was shot many times with BB guns, worst was being shot right below my ear once. Couldn't hear without ringing for about an hour. Bottle Rockets were more fun because of the unpredictability. One foot piece of 1/4" PVC as a launcher was money. One year, around this time, we had a bottle rocket war at night when it was frigid. I had a couple dozen in my coat pocket, and someone actually shot a live on into that pocket. Chaos ensued as it lit all the bottle rockets in my pocket. I wasn't hurt but was scared shitless with a coat on fire that I managed to get off before it set the rest of my clothes on fire.

tl;dr? Good times

Ya, it was a fourth of July ritual for my cousins and I.

Well, right up until I shot my mom in the arse with a bottle rocket.

Woops.

Thankfully I could still shoot the cats with roman candles.

We were hunters and grew up being very careful with guns, so we never came close to shooting at one another with BB guns. However, bottle rocket wars were common during holiday seasons.

We’d load up on Air Travelers and Moon Rockets. Good times. Hell I’d do it now if I could. 30 years later.

Bottle rocket wars are some of my best memories from the ‘80s.

Yep.

I can remember when I was little me and my brother weren't even allowed to ride in the cab of the truck unless it was raining. We in the back all the time.

No one ever lost an eye, but I did nail my cousin right in the forehead with a bottle rocket once. That ended it that year.

Thought my opponent's bottle rocket was a dud, so I charged him. Just missed with my rocket, and realized he actually had a Roman candle. Turned and hauled arse, with him right behind me, hammering me with that Roman candle. Set my shirt on fire. Lucky I was wearing two shirts.

Called a temporary truce to put my arse out.

Good times.

bottle rockets...Tangipahoa River , Independence, 1977, I was a teenager... me and some of my buds were camping on the river, fishing, shooting at floating empty beer cans we would throw in after drinking...well we also had some bottle rockets and were having a battle earlier in day. Later that night, I'm really buzzed and snooze off by the fire we had built...wake up in a daze and a buddy had thrown a lit bottle rocket at me and that bitch exploded right as it hit me in the chest. I thought I was shot with the .22. Blew a hole in my mesh (remember those) High School jersey and gave me a burn. My mon was some pissed.

Cypress tree in neighbors yard meant we played “sniper” on occasion. Two of us had Sheridan pellet guns. One guy would climb the tree and the rest ran. Trying to get shot at but not shot.

The ONLY smart thing we did was pump the gun only 3 times. I got shot in the ball of the ankle. Hurt like a BASTARD.

Never messed with bottle rockets. I was always to chicken to launch one from my hand.

We used to have pretty big bottle rocket wars. 12-16 kids. Would work in pairs using a long piece of PVC pipe with mud stuffed down one end like a bazzoka. That all ended when one team shoved a mortar down theirs' and lit our arse up. Parents were pissed when we came back with second degree burns.

We used to cut ends off of whiffle ball bats and use them as missle launchers on our shoulder. We would walk in Tenn firework stores and buy bottle rockets as kids.
We used to shoot everything and everything with bb guns too. Windows, birds, bats, etc....but we didn't shoot them at each other lol.
We had crab apple fights, thru Chinese stars, yard darts, slingshots,etc...

Um, no, I’m not a delinquent.

I took to more useful hobbies such as collecting rare coins and crocheting.
