Impossible to answer without knowing locale. There is no practical average.

My home in Beverly Hills is 3000 a square foot. Oh wait, I'm thinking about Spielberg's home. My bad.

172 is actually just about right for my hood in South BR.
Considering I purchased it 17 years ago at 90 a square foot , that's not bad.

Jesus. The amount of money people pay to live in BR is astounding.

I see you’re in Dallas. FWIW, homes in the houston suburbs usually go for around $100 per sq ft

A house in my hood sold for 165 psf about 6 months ago. Now it seems as though things are getting crazy. A house around the corner just went on the market at 215 psf last week. Let see what it sells for. FWIW, my house was 135 psf two years ago. This is in Covington. I would imagine the price points in Mandeville are similar - if not higher.

Without a location this thread is pointless. We paid $275 for fully renovated up here. Avg is $350 but I’ve seen as $700 for some homes.

That’s a fricking steal for a lot of areas of the country.

Anything above 150 is ludicrous unless it's decked out are on acres of land.

I'm contemplating a new position within my company that would require a move to Houston. Prices are below 100 psf all day. My budget would be 400k. I could either buy a 3/2 2500 in BR or a 4/4 4000 McMansion in Houston.

Location location location.

$172 is low for my area. And my area sells for far lower than others.

So you're either very young, incredibly naive or flat ignorant on real estate.
