‘Never again’: Florida man turns in 2 AR-style rifles to Police through buy-back program

A Florida man has gone viral on Facebook after making a statement against the ownership of AR-15-style rifles and relinquishing his weapons to the Miami Police Department as part of their buy-back program.
Steve Hemmert, a self-proclaimed former U.S. Army Infantry officer, said he was well-trained in the use of these weapons, even stating he and his 14-year-old daughter built one of the guns together.
But after the Parkland shooting on Feb. 14, he says “enough is enough.”
“There is no valid need for any civilian to own an AR,” Hemmert said in a Facebook post that has garnered more than 97,000 Facebook reactions, 60,000 shares and numerous comments both in support and against his views.
“Any honest gun owner will admit that the only lawful reason to own an AR is because they are fun to shoot (and they ARE fun to shoot).”
Hemmert said he wants to be part of the solution, but there are many commenters who believe he’s a “sheep” who is giving away his rights.

He is.

It’s not about giving up his rights.
It is his right to not have these guns, however his reasoning is off and it won’t make a bit of difference.
I’m sure an AR15 would make a great defensive weapon against a bad guy with an AR15..
Any ways, here’s a YouTube video of a guy “destroying” his AR15. I believe after the shooting. The comments are kind of funny.

How has this person not been arrested. He seems to be everywhere. Even when it's a pistol, some how AR-15 was involved.
I think we need a manhunt for this AR15 guy. It seems no matter the actual gun being used, that he's involved.

This guy gives a great response defending the ownership of an AR15
I’m sure many have seen it

I really admire the way he explains his position in a logical and calm manner.

How bout the idea of owning one cause you can? There’s no means testing for owning something. It doesn’t have to be rationalized. I own it cause I can.

Is that David Hogg’s boyfriend

I'm sure that cop thanked him for the two free guns that are now part of his collection.

Looks like that cop loved getting the photo op

Even if that were true, what's wrong with that?

His property.
His right.
They now have his name, address and a good idea he owns a bunch of other guns.
I am sure that information will never be used to his disadvantage.

It's amazing to watch how easily simple minded people are manipulated into doing irrational things.

Actually, the only lawful reason is because it's legal to own them. The reason one wishes to own it is irrelevant. The use is what dictates illegality.
For example, it's legal for me to own a car, but it is not legal for me to drive it through a bunch of kids waiting for a school bus.

So not only is he a pussy but he lies about military service to get Facebook likes.
Real hero there.
