the tutorial hints are a lot better now than they were when i first picked this game up after reinstalling and playing for the first time since i reformatted my hard drive

It's just absurdly complex. I enjoy some of the mechanics that let me have greater control over my area but it's not super friendly.

Play through the tutorial, play a game on Tutorial Island (Ireland), and when you royally frick things up and your heir ends up hating you because he's culturally Italian, go read a guide. Do that a half dozen times or so and the game will start making sense

The last time I legitimately played CKII, I started as a lone Persian Zoroastrian with a single holding in the middle of the Arab Islamic world. I let myself be absorbed by a larger kingdom, overthrew it from within, then launched an all out war against the massive neighboring Islamic Caliphate. Standing in their ashes, I reestablished the Persian Empire and expanded it to the heights of its power. About the time I was turning my sights on Christendom proper, the Mongol hordes came down from the steppes and utterly fricking crushed me with their bullshite fricking retreat and ambush tactic and 150k deep doomstacks...

I just checked my Steam library, and my last achievement was definitely The One Who Brings Benefit, so I'm pretty sure I'm correct in my recollection

just brings up the lil " preparing to launch" steam window and then nothing.
Restart didn't work, neither did verifying game files. Uninstalled and reinstalled. still nothing. maybe windows 10 issue.

You didnt do something right. You should have like 20 bookmarks to choose from
