I get a good amount of vacation time each year. I prefer to take one week to 10 day trip, and take a lot of 1 and 2 day chunks. A couple people in the company take their entire vacation time in one chunk. One long time employee has 5 weeks and takes it all at the same time. I prefer a bunch of long weekends throughout the year. What do you do?

I'd rather do long weekends and take a day or two here or there instead of blowing the entire wad on one big chunk of time.

I typically will take a couple days here and there, and use about 2 weeks in a block for a long trip. In September I'll be using 2 weeks to go to Italy, and aside from that I'll usually take a Monday or Friday off here and there.

I have teenagers so I like to do small chunks. After 3 or 4 days I'm over it. Once they're out of the house I'll probably start taking longer ones.

If I had 5 weeks, I would take two two week vacations. Gives you plenty of time to travel and what not. Then use the last week sporadically. A Friday here and there.

Pretty much what you said. One big trip and a number of long weekends. 5 weeks at once is a waste because there is no way that he effectively planned 5 weeks worth of things to do or see and probably sat around watching daytime tv and jerking off.

Clearly doesn't have one of my bosses. His philosophy is that if you can take off more than 2 weeks and he doesn't miss you, he doesn't need you.

I use a week about every other month unless I have something big planned, I can usually stretch that week into almost two weeks off

It just depends what vacations I'm going on. Normally I take a week long vacation and then a couple days here and there for smaller trips.

This year I used all my vacation to extend my maternity leave, they gave me a week back so I'm using it for long weekends since I'm not taking any long trips this year.

Sounds like he planned it out pretty well if so.

I try and schedule a vacation every quarter. Breaks the year up. Our office basically closes the last two weeks in Dec, so I never waste days then.

when working at Michoud they had a plant shutdown the last 2 weeks of every year. So, we got that time off plus our normal vacation.

One year I saved 2 weeks of vacation and took them right before the shutdown. it was almost like going back to school after summer vacation.

If I took 5 weeks off, I would be replaced. I am almost getting to the point that I can take every Friday off, for the rest of the year.

I typically take one week long vacation and several long weekend trips. I have taken a 3 week trip once and another 2 week trip, but I'd rather the one week trip and the weekend trips.

ETA: at one point I had a job where I accrued 16 hours every month, and I could bank a max of 176 hours, so I just accrued up to my max hours and then proceeded to take two 3 day weekends every month. That was nice
