Back to some serious football talk. . .the ONE stat that worries me the most:

From ESPN: "LSU has scored on 92.1 percent of its red-zone trips (35-of-38), which is second in the SEC, but the Tigers are next-to-last in touchdown percentage down there (18-of-38)."
Thank God we have a kicker like Tracy, but all this talk about "explosive plays" is only going to help us between the 20s. We may be able to move the ball to the red zone - but Ensminger's play calling and the team's execution once they are there has been terrible. FGs aren't going to get it done VS Bama.
Hope Ensminger has been sleeping at the office every night for the last 2 weeks and working on RED ZONE OFFENSE!!!

I wish I had a breakdown of this per game. As the field gets compressed, it is harder to move the ball. I wonder if the fact that LSU has played some very good defenses makes a big impact on TD production in the red zone.

All have stronger Defenses than what most of those being compared to have faced. I'm not dismissing it. I just think there are sometimes Apples to Oranges comparisons

I think one factor in this is the reliability of Tracy. A SURE 3 points weighs heavily on red zone decisions.

Plus it's about the flow of the game and match ups that determines whether or not you can be successful on 4th down in the redzone. Against UGA the flow of the game, the OL/DL matchups and the fact that UGA did have a high powered offense coming into the game gave more credence to going for it on 4th down in the redzone which led to more touchdowns.
The opposite was true especially for MSU and UF. It was the accumulation of many little mistakes and turnovers that killed us in the UF game not the inability to score touchdowns in the redzone. In the MSU game the decisions were easy to take the field goals because MSU's offense was inept against our D and MSU's DL is probably the best we will see all season. In those situations you take the points.

There is no denying we've struggled to get TD's down there, but -
We've been ahead in these games and getting 3 widens the lead. So I can see how having a lead with a great kicker can take a lot of urgency off of your offense once you get to the 33 yard line.

I agree 100% with this which is why I, even as a diehard fan, still believe and expect LSU will lose this game. I'll hope we win and will probably have anxiety attacks during every single possession but I'm realistic as well. We have to score touchdowns to beat Bama; field goals won't cut it.

I think there are 2 factors. One, we lack a true bruising inside runner. We don't have a player that can grind out yards when the defense starts to pack it in. I was hoping Curry would be that guy, but he likely needs more time and our OL still hasn't solidified.
Second, we have not done a good job utilizing our size mismatch with our WRs. We should be able to eat defenses up with back shoulder fades. It's likely a combination of our WRs not correctly putting DBs on their hip and poor ball positioning by Burrow. He made one attempt vs Miss St I believe that was picked in the endzone and Burrow did not put the ball high enough and enough outside. The WR also didn't box the DB out well.

Burrow and the O-line will have to make some plays. As with most games against the gumps, the offense will have to pull its own weight

We have played 1 top 30 opponents redzone scoring opportunities per game defense and they are 27th( miss st).
we have played 1 defense in the top 50 in opponents redzone scoring %

I don't think LSU is going to be able to hand the ball off in the red zone successfully. You're going to either need Burrow to run it a little (which he certainly can) or find a way to throw it in there. Maybe toss a few up to that 7' WR of yours.
