I can tell there is a pretty big professional wrestling fan base here. I can also tell the majority of posters here are likely above the age of 18, so I’m curious as to why men follow wrestling so religiously.

I’m not even judging, just a genuine interest in why grown men are enamored with wrestling.

We all agree it’s scripted, which I understand is arguably no different from any other form of entertainment like movies, television, plays, etc.

But if the wrestling industry is fictionalizing bouts between fighters, aren’t they taking away why these types of matches have existed for thousands of years, the uncertainty?

When it comes to true games of sport like boxing and actual wrestling, it is said that two evenly-matched fighters can both win, it just depends on the day of the week.

So if you take the true uncertainty out if wrestling, I don’t understand where the interest comes from.

Plus, the acting is way over the top and just terrible, IMO. These guys’ talents lie in body building, I’ll give them that. Acting, not so much.

Thanks for shedding some light on why you follow wrestling. I will add I enjoy watching our Commander in Chief take part.

A) Why do you care?

B) We like what we like and really owe you and or anybody else an explanation.

I’m fascinated by your interest. There’s no reason to take offense, because as you said, you like what you like. As I mentioned in my post, I respect that.

Shouldn’t be that difficult for you to take stock of why you enjoy it and report back to me.

No.

Frankly never understood the interest grown men have in comic books, either.

For this to be true, everyone would have to know the outcome. I doubt that is true.

I watched when I was a kid in high school, and it was no different than any other show on TV to me...something fun to watch. I have buddies that still follow it, although I've never really asked them why.

people can articulate it better than I can but to me it's more than "a soap opera for men"

the best way to view the weekly shows and monthly PPVs is not as "fake wrestling competitions" but rather TV programs ABOUT wrestling competitions. In that context you can better suspend disbelief and just enjoy the athleticism, storylines, drama, shock/surprise, etc.

I don't expect everyone to enjoy it. It's not for everyone and lord knows there is plenty of crap wrestling every week. But when it hits and it's good, it's GREAT.

acting is hard. It's why there are very few true superstar wrestlers and the ones that act can become movie stars.

Also, physique isn't as important as it used to be. Plenty of dad bods and slightly built/shorter guys

Seems like there’s a pretty big fanbase.

Maybe they come out at night.

How is it any different than people watching a scripted movie? It's all entertainment. I use to watch wrestling all the time during the 90s/early 2000s and it was just fun to follow

Well, if you really owe the OP and anybody else an explanation, then go ahead and give us one.

Many of the characters and storylines have been incredibly entertaining over the years, especially when you consider its a link back to childhood or some other lighter time in most peoples lives. It’s pretty mindless entertainment, which a lot of people seek after dealing with day to day adulting.

Plus, despite the fact that the stories and outcomes are fiction, there’s some good storytelling going on during the course of your best matches along with incredible athleticism.

I don’t really see it any differently than any other “guilty pleasure” form of entertainment, despite the bad rap it gets.
