What is it with LSU pitching year after year?

Every year we end up losing one to two big arms. EVERY year it seems.
I don't follow other teams unless it means something to us but do they have the same issues as we do?
Makes me wonder what's going on in practice and pre-season with these arms.

Everyone has injuries.
Arm injuries in pitchers are normal. That’s why CPM takes so damn many and recruits positional guys that can play in multiple spots.

You do realize Labas came to LSU with the injury right?
So did Storz, for that matter.

Some one described pitching as the must unnatural motion in sports.
Injuries are gonna happen

Did you not watch any baseball last season? You didn't see either of them much at all.

Yeah, nothing about throwing a baseball is natural to what the body wants you to do. If you keep constantly bending your knee in the wrong direction over time, guess what is going to eventually happen?

At least Labas pitched last year. 54 innings. This looks like it will be the second straight years where Storz doesn't throw more than 3 innings.

This is every team in the country nowadays. Two words: travel ball. Kids simply don’t rest their arms enough since they play so many games now

Labas didn't pitch much last year either. And Storz may be pitching for us by April.

Travel ball, showcase ball, year round competitive pitching at young ages.

We overwork our pitchers to the point where the weak ones basically break. Only the strong survive

He pitched 54 innings. That's decent. More than Todd Peterson, Matthew Beck, Devin Fontenot, and pretty much everyone else besides the starters and Cade Gilbert. Puts him at 5th most innings pitched. And I heard that about Storz, but let's be honest. Pitchers rarely come back from injuries on time.

Maybe you should before assuming we are unique on the injury front

Ask any Orthopedist and they will concur. Before the advent of travel ball, kids only pitched a few months a year and rested (played other sports) the rest of the year.

Combine that with the fact that kids are starting to throw breaking balls earlier and earlier and it's easy to see why so many college aged pitchers run into arm trouble.

If Hilliard goes down that would upset me. He is one of my favorites!

It’s travel ball which leads to no rest for kids; it’s kids throwing breaking balls before their arms develop and it’s the obsession with velocity. Kids aren’t taught to pace themselves when they pitch anymore and that’s a trickle down from MLB. Kids know that velocity is the thing that will get them signed so it’s max effort every pitch.

Wonder if PM knew they were injured?

Unfortunately this is why injuries are more common now. All these kids playing college ball now all played travel ball growing up. It will only get worse until we can find a way to regulate travel ball and convince kids to become multi sport athletes
