I never thought I would say this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Wade play Waters off the ball a little more with Smart's emergence.
Right now LSU's biggest weakness is 3 point shooting. Wade fully believes in the analytics that 3's and layups/dunks are the only shots you should take, so LSU becoming a better 3 point shooting team could really serve them well. Waters is LSU's best spot up 3 shooter. He's tough if you can allow him to set his feet and it doesn't take much for him to get a shot off.
Waters is still your best "creator" with the ball and should get the lion's share of minutes at PG. But I think letting him play a bit more of the #2 MAY give this offense a shooting boost it's missing. Teams are now going to have to be very concerned with Smart attacking the lane, which should leave some kick out open.

I totally agree. Those open looks will be there.

My only concern with Smart being the primary ball handler is his ability or willingness (whichever it is) to create for others, especially when driving.
Don’t get me wrong, he has become great at driving to the basket; but he is almost always certain to take the shot rather than dish.

The thing waters does better than most is steal the ball...his hero passes are great when they work but are the reason for many turnovers...

I really thought he would get player of the week. But congrats to him on the honor

quote:yes it is, and Everytime Wade is asked about it in pressers all he says is "I'm not worried, we have good shooters." I like your take on having Waters as a spot up shooter but probably won't happen as Waters is still most trust-worthy distributor and ball-handler. The three point shooting hasn't killed us yet, just hope it's not a ticking time bomb

I was at an event recently where CWW was asked who his best 3 point shooter was. He said Skylar, in practice. Then Tremont. Of course practice is very different than a game situation but I thought it was an interesting comment.
I think Tremont has been a good catch and shoot player as well, but I think that’s when he’s really “feeling it”.

He's a warrior. Once he gets in the paint, he wants to finish. He'll get better at dishing it out over time.

Maybe he can win it 2 weeks in a row. That would be something.

Proud he is a Tiger and local grown.

He's really come on strong these past few weeks. I hate to say it, but he may be the most NBA ready player on the team. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves after this year because he's playing at a high level and offers the NBA unique skills, such as being a play maker and his ability to slice through a defense!
