I know, I know. It's football season. If you aren't interested in baseball right now, just exit the thread and go about your day (or hit the little down vote button if it'll make you feel some weird type of power).

It certainly may not end up this way, but I'm basing this off of what we have seen in the fall plus a bit of projecting.

C - Garza: I know he is injured and hasn't played, so this is just a projection.

1B - Beleso: locked

2B - Doughty: I'm putting him here for now, mainly because of my third base projection. I still want to see Dugas here, but I won't put him as the starter because he hasn't played a lick here in the fall.

3B - Mathis: he seems to be hitting in every single scrimmage. I expect Doughty here if Mathis doesn't continue.

SS - Hughes: let's not turn this into a shite on Hughes debate please. Yes, he needs to hit better. I hope that happens, but I think he will at least start the season at SS.

LF - Willis: he has also hit pretty well. The OF may be very crowded, so we might see a revolving door in LF.

CF - Gio: Cabrera is getting a look. So if Gio isn't cutting it, Cabrera could move here.

RF - Cabrera: I think he's the only lock to start in the OF all season. If it's not in RF, it'll be in CF.

That leaves a few other solid options left over.

Bianco - could probably slide in almost anywhere, or DH. He's been blasting HRs, so if the light stays on he will be impossible to keep out of the line up.

Dugas - also been hitting well. I touched on wanting him to play 2B, but we will see. He's also worked a lot of OF.

Hampton - he isn't there yet, but if he's as good as advertised, then he may be tough to keep off the field as the season progresses.

Fri - Henry
Sat - Marceaux
Sun - Labas

I know I'm leaving a few off, but we haven't seen enough yet to really know. Also, this is 100% based off of offense. I don't know how the players I listed are hacking it on defense, which could factor in big time to these projections.

Quick question: Who TF is Tom Biggs? I've never heard his name before and he all of a sudden shows up and drops bombs.

Based on the Falls they're having, Dugas and Bianco are pushing for an OF spot that would push Cabrera to CF. I think Willis is locking down the other OF spot, pending his arm. His arm also pushes him to a DH option.

We're just so LHH heavy.

Biggs isn't a player I had on my list of incoming recruits. I know we had two transfers come in. One is a SS, and his name is escaping me but he's been out hurt. The other one may be Biggs? I'm not 100% certain though. But since he wasn't on my list of signees, I would guess he is the other transfer or a late add.

Someone else will probably be able to answer with certainty though.

Yes. It seems those two can play just about any position on the field. If they keep hitting like they have been, they will play somewhere.

Willis is certainly a DH candidate, but Biggs/Travenski might fight for that spot as well.

I don't want to sit here and brag about having so many options and it being a great thing. That was my thoughts last season, and I was let down, so I'm not going to say we have an abundance of options.....but we do.

Hampton will be the starting center fielder by May. He is that good and the only reason I don’t think he will be sooner is because he missed fall ball and will miss some time for spring football.

Any details on him Project?

Was this a flash in the pan or is he a real contender to crack the lineup?

What position does he play?

Any details you have would be wonderful.

12. C - Torres - FR - at San Jacinto
37. P - Phillips - FR - at McLennan CC
31. P - McMurray - SO (LH) - playing football at Bakersfield CC

I think that's all of the attrition.

ETA:

Arnold is the HS INF we added late. Mathis is the JC INF we added late. Kendall Burnett is transfer LHP that was added to the roster in like August. And there are currently two walk on LHPs throwing in the scrimmages.

I can’t really argue with any of these.

Nice work

Outfield projection looks good.
Gio will be in CF I think with no doubt. Kid can fly and it doesn't make sense to put Cabrera there.
Beleso at 1b check.
Bianco played 2B and SS in HS. If he can fill in at second and let Doughty play SS it'd be nice to have Hughes sit.
That is unless Hughes can start swinging the bat.
I'd like to see an infield that can play well without Hughes. Great kid with lots of heart I'm sure, but he was a liability last year.

Biggs is an INF and RHP from West Monroe. He's played 2nd and 3rd in the scrimmages, but could be a utility guy that plays even more spot than those. I don't think it's a flash in the pan, he has power potential. He will also be a draft eligible sophomore next year. He was committed to ULL as a Freshman in HS but flipped to LSU later on.

I thought we were at 36 after McMurray left, but that looks right.

We are at 36. You have Cranford listed twice.

That looks about right.
I think Willis will be primarily OF unless a catastrophe happens a C.
Moving Biggs to INF out of P is probably correct.

He won't play CF just because he can run. We have a lot of LH bats, and you could easily see him on the bench against lefties.

He also struggled defensively in CF some last season. He will have to improve on this to play CF for Mainieri.

And he was hot and cold at the plate. If some of these other bats stay hot, while Gio's isn't (or defense becomes an issue) he will be out of the line up. His spot isn't locked for sure.

Based off summer ball, Doughty will have to improve a whole lot on defense to play SS.

If we have a line up that is smashing the ball, then having Hughes weak bat as a trade off for defense will be fine. It's not nearly as big of a deal as the rant makes it out to be. We need a team full of hitters to make it work though.

How has Doughty looked defensively? I know that he had some struggles with errors in his summer league season.

The bats are promising, but I am getting giddy just thinking about a healthy rotation of Marceaux, Henry, and Labas with Fontenot, Hilliard, Beck, Hasty, etc. in the pen. Flex one of the freshman/sophomores to the midweek role to build experience and get stretched out.

If Hill ever gets healthy and Storz, well, whatever... god that's just lagniappe.

I'm not doing it this year. I refuse to let myself think about what the rotation could be. I don't know how it will work out, but it needs to work out this year. If we have to piece it together all year again because this guy and that guy is out for weeks then we will need to start taking a look in the mirror somewhere.

I think the offense is going to surprise some people despite what they lost. Nice to see the soph's putting up numbers and hopefully Mathis continues his strong play as well which will only make you better.
You need two catchers and Garza and Milazzo can hold that spot down. We need a solid year of Garza like he played down the stretch.
I agree, Hughes can handle SS at a SEC level no matter what he hits. Cade Doughty playing primarily 2B and 3B means he is not even getting a look at SS.

The starting pitching will be a strength of this team and Labas is definitely #3 right now. That could mean no Johnny Wholestaff for midweek games since you have Walker, Jaden Hill and Hilliard who will need to get their innings. Fontenot can close and you can also extend him in games like he did against FSU.

The injury woes were crushing to last year's team, they should have won the Super Regional.
