A quick scoring offense ALWAYS makes your defense less effective.

Aranda has done a great job this year considering how quick this LSU offense is scoring. The defense doesn't even have time to catch their breath. This has been an unprecedented year for LSU and Aranda. Very few defensive coaches can/are prepared for their defense to be on the field as much as LSU has this year. When LSU is healthy they are a top 15 defense easily. They are healthy now and will represent but Hurts will still score a lot. I'm not concerned.

Funny that the quick 3 and out offenses under Les didn't make the defense play poorly.

because 3 plays and a punt took longer than a sub 2 minute scoring drive does.

yep, I'd rather the 3 or 4 plays when you add on 7 pts, not just yards to field position.

up UNTIL the arky game
the TOP for the offense and D was basically equal. The D was on the field for less plays than the year before at that point in time as well. Now it MAY have been thrown off a bit after arky and TAMu and UGA but saying our O wore out the D all year is utter BS and been debunked.

Correct
In some games we were giving up chunks of yards on the opening drive. Can't blame that on the offense

I’ll take a quick scoring offense over the infamous run, run, pass, punt routine.

There is a difference mentally on defense when you know you HAVE to stop the other team to have a chance to win and knowing your offense will put up 40+ every game. I think they finally individually got a chip on their shoulders the last few games and played great every play to prove doubters wrong. They also made plays when they had to have a stop in the earlier games. I have complete confidence they will be playing at an elite level the next 2 games.

some truth to this BUT...
how about all of the games where both teams go 3/out?
they stay in the field even more ...
other teams caught up during the second half when we ceased to be aggressive...
were we ahead so Aranda relaxed?
did we start playing to not lose rather than win?
it seems as our D slowed down play in the 2nd halves.
except the last 2 games...
OLE MISS lit a fire.

Clemson had an elite offense and defense last year

According to this site LSU was #63 at 30:08 this year in time of possession while it was 32:23 last year.

The 3 ways in which a quick (or even consistent) scoring O hurts the D:
1. Fatigue
2. Give the opponent more opportunities and the law of averages takes over.
3. Laying off due to leads.
The thing is, they are indiscernible because each of those 3 affects the others and any combination can be in play at a given time.
Did they lay off because of a lead and then the opponent O gets a long scoring drive thereby causing the fatigue?
There is no clear-cut cause-effect.

I think other teams played to our level some in past years too. Now they play with desperation. They probably go for it more on 4th downs and take more chances on 3rd downs. In previous years, they probably played more of a field position game because our offense wasn’t that great.

Funny how you don’t understand that play calling changes for a team when they are stopping your offense effectively versus when they are not.

You left off a reason why opponents tend to score more when you have an offense that they struggle to stop. Your opponents take more risks because they know they must put points on the board. They utilize more “high risk/high reward” play calling.

Exactly. It is very hard to stop a decent offense that is trailing by 2-3 possessions...LSU and UGA defenses had very similar stats against good teams, both were basically lights out when tied or trailing and gave up points when up a couple of scores...it’s just that LSU spent a hell of a lot more time with big leads.

Please!!! More Aranda apologists. Truth is, this guy is over paid and under achieves. Mediocre at BEST. Hope he does leave.

This is a myth. The D has played pretty much the same number of plays as they did in previous years.
Our issue has been the number of big plays we have given up.
