The 5th 18-hole course at Bandon Dunes Resort officially opens today. The video and images are amazing. If you guys have the means (it ain't cheap) THIS is an incredible golf experience. If it's not on your bucket list, it should be.
I was fortunate enough to go two years ago. 36 holes a day for three days in a row. Amazing. I enjoyed it more than the Old Course at St. Andrews ... BLASPHEMY!
Golf Magazine's #1 Buddy destination.

Ballpark cost?

Sheep Ranch looks to be wide open, beautiful views. Cannot beat that. Did you book your trip through Bandon Dunes? Or get any kind of deal?

This does not include lodging. If you are just playing one course, it's not bad. Multiply the rates by 5 courses plus the par 3 course (a must play), and it adds up. We went in late August last time. This time we are going July 4th weekend.

Played Bandon, pac dunes, old Mac and preserve last summer. Probably my favorite trip to date. Could see construction coming along on Sheep Ranch and seemed to look incredible. Any idea if they opened a steakhouse I heard about in that new clubhouse?

I was just there Thursday-Sunday and all anyone could talk about was how amazing Sheep Ranch is.
Even without playing the new course, that was hands down the best golf experience I have ever had.

Heading there in July for a week. I think it will be my 5th time there. I travel to Oregon for work and my clients there are golfers so we have made golf trips of it over the years. Can't beat the experience of Bandon, no matter the weather.
we played the Sheep Ranch before it was a course. about 7 years ago while on a trip to Bandon, on the guys in the group knew the owner of the Sheep Ranch land and was able to play it. it was just 13 small greens (it think that was the number) scattered around the property, We were able to bring an ice chest with beer and then decided what holes to play. there really wasn't holes that were routed so we said you see that green over there about 800 years away- let's play it as a par 7. We spend a few hours making up holes but mainly stayed around the coastline to have crazy views as there were a few greens along the coast.
We have also made a few trips to Central Oregon to the Bend/Sunriver area. Another great destination for golf that you wouldn't consider until you visit. Tons of great courses at elevation with great weather.

Is there a decent night life to go along with it, or more just your pure golfing experience?

Pure golf experience. There is McKee's Pub on property and the Bunker Bar. Nightlife is made with the group of guys you are with - having drinks & hanging out, etc. Since it's walking only, I try to take it slow at night so I can function the next day on the course since there are no golf carts.

As lsuwiseman stated, it's pure golf. They have great restaurants, of all levels, all on property. This is a golf buddies paradise. Bigger the group, the better the experience. You walk and play 36 / day. You don't want to go crazy in the evenings. HUGE fire pit to grab you beverage and shoot the shite by the fire. Words cannot describe how great an experience this place is.

Looks awesome. Once in WA this looks to be 7 hrs away, I'll be making a trip down. Funny enough my friend has been commenting on wanting to head out there and this thread got me on board

Perfect; this helps a lot. It's only going to be two or three of us, so will likely wait for a bigger group to go here.

We went back in 2015. Played Pac twice and all the others once. There is absolutely no better collection of courses in the world. It’s a different style of golf, but you get used to it.
How has no one mentioned the Punch Bowl?
Making bets over there to end each night was the best. This trip is basically impossible to regret.
I can’t wait to get back and check out Sheep Ranch.

How does this compare to a Pinehurst trip?

Did not get to the Punch Bowl or Shorty's Course, but The Preserve is SPECTACULAR. I have played par 3 courses before, but that was awesome. Putting from the tee (75 yards) on 13 is a blast. Hit the pin and stopped about a foot away.

I have not been to Pinehurst and it is on the list. BUT what I can say is that you will be able to play golf walking outdoors and not feel drenched with sweat in the middle of summer at Bandon. Also, the weather is cool enough you need a vest or pullover to start and you can shed layers comfortably as the day rolls along.
Also, Bandon has every (18) course There ranked in top 30 in the USA w multiple in top 15 I think. I would imagine Sheep Ranch will make the list. Furthermore, the courses are different enough to provide spectacular variety.
Mike-you GOTTA go to the punch bowl. Imagine putt putt but on true Bandon greens and no gimmicky bs. They have some crazy slopes and it is downright the best way to end your day on the property. We would smoke cigars, make bets, and they even have a waitress come out to take drink orders while you’re on the green. It’s basically an acre putting green.
The more I type the more I wonder why I ever travel to any other courses. Lol
Edit: the Preserve was just spectacular like you said. It’s a can’t miss as well. I thought the views from that course were some of the best!

I agree completely. Scheduled to go back next year, and I am probably more excited about the punch bowl than I am Sheep Ranch. All I can compare Bandon to is a golfer's Disney World. Every detail is thought of. Every service is top notch. It's not cheap, but it is the top of the golf resort world. Simply an incredible experience.
Just to reiterate, it's not a party golf trip. Though they have booze and amazing bar and restaurants, this isn't a trip you go and drink until you can't stand anymore. On the course, you can have a flask or a couple of beers, but if walking 16 miles a day, you don't want to be slamming 18 beers a day
