Should Southerners get reparations

Supposed your family was a Union loyalist during the War Between the States. You didn't have a vote on secession. Your sons never fought and you didn't support the war.
BUT when the North comes through, Government agents/troops burn down your farm and home while taking your horses and livestock, making you completely destitute. There is no aid or food stamps back then.
How is that not an improper taking under the 5th amendment? Shouldn't regular citizens whose property was destroyed or taken by the Union be entitled to 5th amendment compensation?

Are you protected by the US constitution when you are not a state of the US?

No reparations for anyone that wasn't alive at the time.

Claim your mule at the nearest DMV.

Considering that the United States considered the rebellious states as just that, rather than an independent nation, yes.
Why else would the Emancipation Proclamation be applied to the states in question?

No. Nobody affected by the civil war is alive today. Any problem or disadvantage that you have today (white or black) can be directly traced back to a decision that you made. Maybe the decision was influenced by how you were raised, but nevertheless you made a conscious decision to end up where you are currently at

Actually this happened to my family.
I have letters between my ancestor and Sherman's army command for reimbursement of items taken from the family farm during the course of the war, which included wood, pigs, crops, etc.
Granted it took the govt 4 years to actually reimburse my family but they were paid back with a full itemization and unit prices for each.
CSB I know.

Because you can't secede from the US and its constitution, then try to invoke the constitution when you start losing the resulting war.
It's like wondering why Confederate soldiers couldn't claim 8th Amendment protections from cruel and unusual punishment by Union soldiers.

Now that's just silly. We are all a product of history to a large extent.
OP's premise is also silly, but to suggest that your life has not been affected by TWBTS is naive.

My great grandparents were Sicilian immigrants who were segregated by society and lived in the projects. I can have some free stuff?

If you lived during the civil war and or have been an active slave from the days before the civil war ended and are still alive, you should get something.
All others, no. Giving money to 5 generations removed relatives is basically welfare.
