Golfer two is probably more consistent and can improve easier. Golfer one can take it lower.

First dude can scramble his arse off, second dude struck it well but left putts out there.

I say the first dude because he dropped par on a shite ball striking day.

Hit 15 greens and have 35 putts?!?! That’s three putting 7 times / not good at all. Good ball striker maybe / not good golfer

So here is a backstory...

This is my friend and I...

This was today’s round.

I am golfer 2 and yes he is a much better putter and chipper. However, on average I hit 5-6 more greens a round. And played high level collegiate golf as well as some professionally. He is a average ball striker but makes 15 foot par putts throughout the day. He argue about best golfer all the time. Is it the guy who hits it like a tour jock and occasionally gets hot with the putter? Or the guy who can’t hit for shite but makes everything

Not fair to say who the better golfer is based off of one round. One guy hit it pretty poorly it seems and has one hell of a short game. The other one can’t putt to save his life. If forced I always go with the short game.

Both of these guys are good but put a few more rounds together and see who gets the advantage. I don’t think your one round stands can be a tell all

I've got this as 18 2 putts, no three putts.

Can’t say based on one round, but there is only one number that matters, and it ain’t greens or fairways.

My experience is that the better ball strikers game will “travel” better and handle a variety of courses with more consistent scores.

But it is almost impossible to ball strike your way to low scores without being a good putter.

The deviation between a "good" and "bad" putter is way smaller between the deviation of a good and bad ballstriker.

Unless this guy is a serious world class putter, 15 footers aren't going to keep falling at that rate, whereas the ball striker can clean up the putting.

The examples given are of a good and bad putter and a good and really good ball striker. The putting is actually much further apart based on this one round. And imo, someone who can read a putt, hit it on that line, and get the right speed is much more advanced if done consistently. 8 or so putts is a ton of separation.

Whoever makes the lowest score is the best golfer that day! Anymore questions?

Meh can’t really say that. What if player 2 hit it to an average of 40ft while player 1 hit it to 5ft average on chips. Is player 1 really 8 shots better putting?

Give me player 2 as a student over player 1.

I need more stats and maybe some shot link data.

The guy missed 11 greens and still shot even par? Did he get up and down 11 times? Did he chip in a couple times? Did he make birdies on the 7 holes he got on in regulation?

Did player two have a ton of two putts or a mix of 3 putts and 1 putts?

What course did y'all play? What tees?

Who hits it further?

This is a tease. I need a ton of information to game this out.

But with that said, I'm 100% player 2 so I can make that work in my head.

Then player two isn’t as good of a ball striker as the stats show anyway and I’d still rather player 1.

Player one can obviously make birdies and get up and down when necessary. Player two either really sucks at putting or isn’t the ball striker the stats portray because he’s nowhere near the hole when he’s on the green.

The only number that matters is the score. if player 2 hit that many more greens and lost, he will get drummed on the day when player 1 hits the ball well
