Any suggestions on an audio book series for a roadtrip trip out West?

We listened to the hatchet books during our last trip and are looking for something similar, but we haven't found anything.

Any suggestions appreciated

Do you let him watch R rated movies?

If so, the Red Rising audiobooks are the best I've listened to.

There's cursing and the occasional mention of rape however.

But the story of the books is definitely something a 12 year old would enjoy. Infiltration of an elite society, space battles, revolution.

Bernard Cornwell has a four book civil war series: The Starbuck Chronicles. He’d probably enjoy it.

I recently listened to Skyward - its a YA sci fi by Brandon Sanderson and has two books out right now. The protagonist is a girl but it is well done.

this list has some other suggestions.

I stick pretty close in the sci fi / fantasy / nonfiction realm, so my other suggestions would be the Hobbit, LOTR, Harry Potter, Redwall type realm.

Rifles for Watie was a great civil war era fiction book i read and loved as a kid. It is definitely appropriate and also was a very well done book as I recall - is available as audiobook. That would be a really good option I think.

If they have audiobooks do this for sure - start with Mossflower, it is great

Ooh, yeah, the MYTH books. Perfect for his age, though I can't vouch for any audio versions for listenability

I read the hell out of Carl Deuker books at that age if he likes sports. All high school sports themed and kinda coming of age stories with good lessons.

Heart of a Champion
Painting the Black
Night Hoops
High Heat

were all my favorites
