I am a huge Tiger fan!! But I am really trying to understand this in an unbiased and realistic manner. We beat the hell out of Ohio St. for the National Championship, we win the SEC, we bring back most of our talent (we do lose our QB), and we are regarded as the most talented team in the SEC with the most depth BUT BUT BUT..
these preseason rankings have Ohio St. at #2, they have Georgia or Florida winning the SEC and some have Auburn winning the West?????
In an unbiased but realistic manner explain :
Why?

Les is an idiot.
Saban's talent is gone.
We are doomed.

Ummm, because all of those schools you mentioned are bringing back big time, established QB's and we're throwing out a RS Freshman, TRUE Freshman and a transfer from Harvard.

ok I understand the new no experienced qb argument but then why is Auburn going to win the west over LSU
both will be starting new qbs (burns doesnt have much experience so dont give me that) and if you just look at the rest of the team, LSU is the more talented team. so what give there?

Auburn having us at home. I don't think anyone thinks Auburn is a heavy favorite, though.

It's better to be the underdog, imo.

we don't need a huge playmaker QB we just need a QB who won't make stupid decisions
EX. 2003 and 2007

This.
I'm not saying I agree with it, but this is why we are pushed down.

The SEC media as a group is rather unintelligent. I thought when they picked LSU to finish 5th in the West in baseball earlier this year (despite being ranked #30 in a national preseason poll), that that would be the stupidest consensus prognostication I would ever see in my lifetime. If you look at the vote tallies, however, this comes pretty close. They should all be fired.
Just a note of caution, when any posters on this board start throwing around the words "unbiased" and "realistic," you can bet they are about to post something notably biased and unrealistic about LSU, and not in a positive way.

we bring back most of our talent
you can start right here. While we do bring back alot of talent, we lost some very key players (Dorsey, Hester, Steltz, Highsmith, Docet, Flynn).
As an LSU fan, you know their replacements and how talented/highly touted they were, but they are still inexperienced .
tOSU does bring back all their key guy's. Last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year for them. The only key they lose is Gholston and like LSU they have lots of talented young players.
UGA brings most of their guy's back and they finished got, that's always a good way to get a high ranking the next year.
Last year Florida was loaded with young, inexperienced players and lost some close games. This year they are experienced and return the Heisman winner and add a potential good RB. Frankly, they are the favorites to win the SEC.
as for Auburn, they too usually have talent by the boatload, hired a new OC and do get LSU at home.

Along with breaking in a new QB, whose 1st road start is going to be AT Auburn, we also have our even year hard arse road schedule. Auburn's got us at home, and since usually the winner of this game wins the West, that's why people are picking them.
This would be the first time in ten years we've won at Auburn. Man, I'd love to see that happen this year...

If the refs pull any funny business on us at AU this year, LSU fans will riot. I believe in them

there is one big issue with the polling that i think hurts a team like LSU this year - and that is are the voters ranking the teams RIGHT NOW based on how good they think the teams are, or how many games they will win over the course of the season?
from the standpoint of 'how good the team is' LSU should be right up there with and perhaps ranked above Ohio State, UGa, Florida, USC, Oklahoma, etc.
but if the teams are being ranked by 'projected results' then its not unreasonable to project Auburn ahead of us.
they get UGa at their place like we do, but having UT at home and playing at Vandy is a lot easier than visiting Florida and South Carolina.
their toughest SEC road test is at Alabama...yes a big rivalry but not on the level of florida. oxfart and starkvegas are not 'tough' places to play either.
back to the poll, since these rankings are being used as the starting point for the rankings that are going to be used in the BCS selection, i think not knowing what criteria the voters are using is dangerous.
that is really what happened to Auburn in 2004 and what almost happened to us in 2003.

I second the Les Miles is an idiot, and Saban built the team. Les Miles is no Ed Ogeron however, and the team won't lose but a couple of games. National powerhouse for years to come. However, LSU is not going to win a NC or an SEC championship every year. It's the SEC.

You like that shite huh? Well there's plenty more where that came from. Your fricking noob arse isn't going to just troll on here and post that our NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING COACH is an idiot and Saban built this team when in fact you now have the village idiot as your coach and Saban has like four of five guys that have ever taken a snap when he was the coach so that goes right out the window. This is and has been Les' team since 2005 douche.

I can't believe that a fan of a team that just won a national championship would be this defensive. I am not trolling, I have the utmost respect for your school's program, players, and fans. I just think that there are much better coaches in the SEC than Les Miles. I was saying that Saban built the program, and once he got it going Les Miles did not have to do much. LSU was the most talented team in the nation last year. Oh, and for the record my team's village idiot football coach's team. Beat your National Championship team last year. Houston Nutt is not worse than a mid tier coach.

Every year, here we go with Ohio state again. It is really sickening, but at least the media finally stopped promoting an overated, in an overall weak conference OU 's butt..
