It wasn't until the other day after having a conversation with my brother that i realized how spoiled as a class mine has been when it comes to sports at LSU. My brother was one of the kids that stormed the field after beating #1 Florida in 1997...and here i am, a Senior at LSU, and I've never stormed the field for a game. I wonder what that's like. I'm sure it's a lot of fun. I wouldn't know, because the entire time i've been here we've been expected to win,and anything else is a let-down. Kind of bittersweet huh? But lets not stop at football...my freshmen year the basket ball team went to the Final Four, and the Lady's have been there every year. There was the insane baseball season this past year, track team is always in the top 5, Tennis i'm not so sure about but i know we had a top ranked doubles team a few years back, Susan Jackson just won the National Championship for Vault in Gymnastics back in April, hell..even our womens soccer team got into the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history and seem to be getting even better. Add that to our insane tailgating and #1 hardest stadium to play football in (according to NCAA 09 hah) and it's hard to imagine going to school anywhere else. I guess what i'm trying to say is, most students that are currently enrolled really don't know how great they've got it.

I think it was UT in 00-01 last time the goalposts came down

You got that right--as Skip said, these are the golden years--enjoy 'em while you got 'em. We lost to Tulane 3 of the 4 years I was an undergrad.

It was way better and bittersweet as a student from 99-03! We saw the development of what we have today and each huge win meant so much more at the time!

i don't remember the last time goalposts came down, but i remember there being field storming w/o goal posts coming down after auburn in 2001 (moved to december b/c of 9/11). I think that may have been the last storming the field episode. I was on the field for that, but the cops had good protection around the goalposts and bloodied some folks trying to get to them.

I'm fairly certain it was Tennesee. I remember they found one of the goalposts about two miles down highland

That was the most insane incident I have seen in Tiger Stadium. It was nearly a full out riot on the field after the game. I saw cops body slamming students. You could see streams of pepper spray going everywhere. Very entertaining.

This is what happened to me. I had a great graduation present, a second BCS title.

storming the field are for those teams that don't think they have a shot. This is LSU, no reason to storm the field. Expect to win and/or at least compete with every team in the country.

If a no. 14 Tigers beat the no. 1 Bulldogs / no. 1 Gators, could storming the field happen again?

Disclaime: Either of the above situations are not my prediction, but one of many possible situations that could occur in the upcoming season.

storming the field was an aberation at the end of the dark times (90's) that some kids did (like a few streakers). there are far more alums in your shoes. that's why there were no riots in N.O. after either MNC. we're passionate but we know the cost of goal posts.

That's my era. I was there from 92-99. I was one of the students who took the field twice when the posts came down. We were on top of the world at that moment. I would have never thought we would have times like these now. it's great to be a tiger today!

Almost all LSU fans are spoiled. They don't realize that, even though great for their age, we're dealing with 18-23 year old kids...for the most part. I remember everyone being unbelievably excited when LSU was in the Indy bowl. We need to just step back, enjoy, and cheer are asses off.

I watched a replay of that game the other night and I wondered if the goal posts had been torn down since that game.

It shows the turn around in the program since Saban came aboard.
Thanks Nick and Les. I hope it is many years before it happens again.
