FDIC insured $100,000

If $100,0000 of your money is federally insured. would you be insured for $100,000 if you had an account for that much in another bank or do they just insure $100,000 per person period?

Per person, per institution.
So if you have $100,000 here, and $100,000 there, you are fully covered.
Why the concern? If two banks that you have money at fail, we've got bigger problems.

You can have more than $100,000 of coverage at one bank.
Your account $100,000
Your wife $200,000
Joint account$100,000
And there are a few other ways through trust accounts and an IRA, but this is the simplest way to get $400,000 of coverage.

I think joint accounts are covered for $200K.
