My PXGs need new grips and after testing a few, I really like the Golf Pride Z Grips. After doing some research online, it seems there are multiple ways of doing it so I wanted to see what yall use.

Air compressor vs. solvent (or both)? (I have a compressor)

Double sided grip tape / scotch tape / no tape

Air compressor

I remove old grips and all sticky tape.
One layer of masking tape
Spray with hair spray
Use air compressor to slide grip on

The hair spray sticks enough after it dries and I have had to cut a few off if they were on for a year or more.

I have Winn dry tac grips now and it works fine. Golf pride are easier to install.

Or...

Simply cut off old grips with a utility knife, remove old tape, then apply a layer of grip tape, squirt on some grip tape solvent, then slide new grip on. No air compressor needed.

I use the double sided tape and solvent.

Strip off old grip and old tape.
Clean the shaft.
Apply double sided tape and tear off the peel away.
Pour solvent into grip with finger on weep hole.
Cover open end and shake the solvent around in the grip.
Add a bit of solvent to the tape on the shaft.
Slide the grip on and line it up.
Let it dry.

Mineral spirits, double sided tape. I have an air compressor as well but have yet to try it that way. It's easier imo to adjust the grip slightly after u get it all the way on with the solvent.

The initial installation isn’t any different. It’s the second time is easy. The grips slide off with air and new ones slide on. Tape never gets removed. Plus if I want to try a new grip I can take one off and put new one on, pit the old one back in later. I like to tinker with my clubs so they will have different grips more often than most. Plus I tend to keep clubs for a long time so it pays off over the years.

If you don’t change grips often just use solvent or whatever’s cheapest.

If you do use tape, I’d suggest using actual mineral spirits instead of solvent. Supposedly, it isn’t as environmentally friendly but definitely works better.

I bought a crappy brand of solvent off Amazon and quickly went back to mineral spirits because my grips were getting stuck half way through the process.

Another benefit of air is the club are ready to hit immediately. I haven’t used solvent in a long time so maybe there is new stuff that doesn’t require a few hours to dry.

This may not be a big deal to most people.

Used to use charcoal lighter fluid back in my day. Worked great. Did it once in my kitchen of an apartment one night before the wife got home. I was real glad I had an early tee time the next day.
