My family loves it. We usually spend 3-4 days every year before kids go back to the school. Wife says the spa/message is good. I wouldn't eat dinner there if you want something special. Your wife will love the downtown fairhope. It's laid back, good shopping and good food.

We go every 4th of July. Lots of activities for the kids.
The facilities have been updated in the last few years which some people preferred the nostalgia (older feel).
The staff and personnel are top notch - and that comes with a price.
Downtown Fairhope is fun, but there are lots of other things to do - golf across the street, spa, bike rides, paddle board, etc
We normally eat by the pool throughout the day, and food on site is pretty expensive...lots of good restaurant options downtown (assuming not impacted by COVID)
Also miss the Sunday brunch...would kill that before getting on the road to return home.

It’s a great place and just went through a big upgrade in the last year or so.

TulaneLSU was asked to leave the resort for something he did in the men's spa, so don't worry about his review of the place.

Just went for the first time back in August and it was a great time. We stayed in the Spa Building, which I think I would definitely do again. It is much quieter than other areas. You don't mention kids, so this building might be a good option. We got one of the rooms that has the balcony overlooking the marina.
I agree with others that the onsite dining is just okay. The restaurants onsite seem to mostly serve the same food at each, so keep that in mind if you're someone who likes to eat a lot of different food on vacation. There are some good restaurants offsite.

I have been going there for over 40 years since I was a kid and now take my own family there often.
It’s morphed into a sprawling resort over this time but still has some of the elements from my childhood which evoke nostalgia and positive memories.
We usually now stay in the spa building. The spa facilities are very good. The main building has nice upgraded rooms too.
Things we usually do; lay by the pool, ride wave runners, walk the beach and look at gorgeous homes, fishing charter, sight sea boat ride, visit the town of fairhope to shop and eat. Fish on the pier.
A few restaurants we enjoy in town-
Dragonfly, thyme, camellia cafe, locals. There’s several other places like Provisions, Sage and R Bistro that we like too.
There are a few music spots too.
A bit outside of town is the Fairhope brewery which I enjoy to watch a game. No food but they can have it brought in from across the street at Hope Farm.
Hope Farm is nice for a more upscale experience. They have live music outside too.
Near the hotel is The Wash House which we usually reserve for special occasion dinners. Been going there for over 40 years.
Within 200 miles, I’m not sure you can find a more complete southern resort on the water.

We do a have a daughter. She just turned 4. I didn’t mention her Bc I didn’t know if we’d take her. But leaning towards yes. Quick read, says kids camp closed I assume bc covid. How’s the kids down there?
Assume it’s cold so this weekend would be tough for water activities etc

We were there earlier this week. We were upgraded to a historical room in the Main bldg and we loved it! It was so convenient to be close to the lobby, restaurants, and fire pits. Your 4 year old will love the huge gingerbread house and toy train in the lobby, if it’s still up when you go.
If you play tennis, their courts are really nice. Use of the ball machine is included in your resort fee.

Place is nice and lots to do with kids. It's on Mobile Bay so water isn't great but you can still enjoy the beach. As others have said, go into town for shopping and dining.
Try Wash House and Jesse's for a nice dinner
