Anyone live or recently visited Mexico City?

I have read numerous mixed things on how open the city is.
What is the current situation there?
We are searching for a warm destination with culture/food.
Cancun/Tulum is our backup, but we prefer MC if it's open.

They love tourists. They bury them near the ocean.

It’s great if you like gang warfare and the risk of being kidnapped and held for ransom and sold into sex slavery

I’ve had friends that visited there pre-Covid.
Big foodie and architecture city. They had a great time.
Used to be free of cartel-style violence but they have a couple of
incidents in 2020.
They have a shite ton of police there. Very high police-to-resident ratio.
Murder rate lower than Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Atlanta.

It’s an amazing city. The professional district and nicer areas are perfectly safe. It best to hire a guide/driver for the whole trip, someone who knows the roads and can advise on where to go.
Make sure to check out Teotihuacan and the pyramids, close to the city.

As you can tell from the mouth breather responses, you would be better off on the travel board.

When you arrive at the entrance to Mexico City, they make you swear loyalty to a cartel or be killed.
Then, after you swear allegiance, they kill you anyway.

Tulum is getting progressively worse. If you are thinking it is like it was ten or even five years ago... it’s not.
We were very disappointed this year with Tulum. The town isn’t designed to hold the traffic and amount of people currently wedging into the place.
