Recommendations needed for a camping trip. Used to get Austex but it's no longer available. Any off brand suggestions gladly accepted.

I like Wolf brand chili, no beans obviously. Not the Hot Dog Sauce.

Wolfs no beans. I add some chili powder, garlic powder, Tabasco and a bit of sugar. And cook it until it’s thickened.
The smaller cans are perfect for a 2 chili dog meal.

There is no "best" brand of canned Chili. All of it is going to wake you up with the 2 AM rumble gut and farts that could clear a pig pen. But if you're down for that kind of masochism, Wolf brand is the right call.

Since when?

I just went through my pantry and found 2 cans. Both expired in 2019.

But I made a homemade chili the other day so chili dogs for lunch in honor of this thread.

Always been a Hormel guy but recently started using Wolf and now prefer it more than Hormel. As another post said, add a little more chili powder, garlic, and Tabasco to kick it up an extra notch.

I grew up eating Wolf Chili (no beans) but haven't cracked open a can in many years. The ingredient list doesn't make my mouth water:

meat ingredients (beef, pork), water, tomato puree (water, tomato paste), rolled oats, textured vegetable protein (soy flour and caramel color), chili pepper, contains less than 2% of the following: salt, sugar, spices, garlic powder, soy lecithin, caramel color, sodium tripolyphosphate.

The final ingredient is a little scary: STPP is used in industrial cleaners, water softening, detergent, emulsifier of oil and grease, peptizing agent, deflocculating agent in oil well, sequester in cotton boiling.

It's good, but a 1 lb brick is about $6.
