Booked the Cook Hotel and Conference Center in BR for the night before the louisiana marathon through expedia. The marathon was cancelled so I cancelled the room(was a free cancellation reservation). Today I see the full charge of the room on the credit card. Upon calling the hotel im told that expedia didn't communicate the cancellation to them so I was charged for a "no-show".. expedia says they didn't charge me anything so I have to take this up with the hotel or my financial institution.. wtf.

On paper, this is impossible.

Expedía gave the hotel a one time virtual credit card to pay for your reservation.

The only person with your credit card number is Expedia.

Get your credit card company involved.

Kinda what I'm thinking lima. Although the charge appears on my statement as "The Cook Hotel" after I called and talked to them again I'm being told to call back and ask for the manager (Consuela) tomorrow and it'll be at her discretion whether to issue a refund or not. I still have the cancellation emails and details. If they don't refund my money should I file a dispute with my credit card( cap one) ? I'm not really familiar with that process. .

I would file the dispute anyway (meaning I wouldn’t wait on them). The few times I’ve done it is was a simple process. Go to CC company’s web site & find the charge. You probably will just need to click on it and there should be an option to dispute the charge. You will have to give a reason; may be a drop down list to select.

Normally you have to wait for it to post rather than a pending charge.

Having the option to dispute a charge is one advantage of a CC vs a debit card or cash.

Thanks for the advice. Been calling since 730 this morning only to be sent to voice-mails. I think im gonna go ahead and dispute the charge with the CC company. I'll never book a room at this place again.

I get that it is tempting to use 3rd parties like this but you should try to always book direct with the hotel. Pick a brand you like and get on their loyalty program, and always book direct. Expedia does not end up saving you in the long run, and you will get treated 1000% better. Hotels don't like when people book through 3rd parties.

If it's a prepaid reservation, yes, but that does not appear to be the case here.

Yeah they didn't charge me anything until yesterday which was 10 days after the date of the cancelled reservation.. I cancelled the reservation 3 weeks early. I called 7 or 8 times today. Keep getting sent to "managers" and am only getting their voicemails. I left 3 voicemails with no calls back. This will post on my CC tomorrow and im just gonna file a dispute. Piss on Cook Hotel. I won't ever book there again.

How is it their fault? You cancelled with Expedia, Expedia didn’t forward your cancellation, they saved the room for you...it’s Expedia’s fault. I get where you are coming from and I’m sure they will make it right eventually. But if a hotel saves a room for you and you don’t show up nor cancel, I don’t see how the hotel owes you anything?

I’m trying to figure out why the hotel had your credit card information, did you not pay anything at the time of the reservation that was refunded?

Yeah I paid nothing until yesterday when they charged me. Reservation was for the 16th. Im not so mad that they charged me its just not being able to speak to a manager or anyone who can help after two days of trying to call. They won't even return my call after leaving 3 voicemails.
