If you saw him Sunday he was def on pain meds. He’s probably in pain. I hope he wasn’t on them while driving. Awful news!

Car crash seems like the worst way to go, if you're going that route. I mean, it's gotta be super painful and the chances you survive are very high.
A lot of things it could have been- it doesn't necessarily mean pills/booze. It'll all come out at some point, so there really isn't a reason to speculate. But you can hope, for his legacy and kids sake, that it isn't drugs/alcohol.
