I've never been there but my wife and I want to try it. For anyone that has been there, what did you think of it? Also, what kind of attire is required there?

Attire is about business casual to mildly casual.. If you are from any cajun part of Louisiana you may be let down a bit. But the gumbo is good and so is the fried alligator.

Its very casual...I think the place can be very good....my favorites are the fried alligator, fried boudin balls, cochon, and lima beans (trust me on the last one).

Its dressed up cajun food...some people have problems paying more than they are used to for cajun, but there is more thought put into the menu than any other cajun restaurant I have been to other than KPaul's.

This is a food board...so take your insignificant rants back to where they belong.

And no since I did not need a tarp or emergency help (which was the point of applying to FEMA while still evacuated)...I will receive the same amount I did for Katrina...$0.

You have proved yourself to be a pathetic child, Lester, but I think that was already a widely known and accepted fact around here.

Nope, no FEMA money here.

Just seems like my wife and I are in a rut when it comes to restaurants. We always seem to go to the same places and I want to try something new.

Don't take it personally it was directed at me for merely APPLYING to FEMA while I was still evacuated and unsure whether I would come home to a tree through my house. Apparently, doing as every radio and TV outlet advised all evacuees to do, apply to FEMA and call your insurance company...and telling the truth to both is some kind of sin.

Just ignore Lester Earl...he is a flamer who should stay over on the OT.

Cochon is different and should break you out of the rut...there is no real comparison in NOLA to it.

What are your usual places? What are some you have been wanting to try?

Fine if you were joking...its just a food board so I was pissed to see OT shite come over here.

I am still befuddled that some people actually believe some of the shite they typed.

I am sorry if I misinterpretted what you said...that was my fault.

i'll recommend the pork cheeks and the oyster and bacon sandwich. the sandwich is NOT a big nasty po-boy so don't expect that. It's great in it's simplicity.

It's pretty casual...jeans and a polo will work.

The rabbit dumplings are very good as well, although it's more of a cold weather dish.

I'm surprised to see that nobody mentioned the baked oysters which are a terrific appetizer at Cochon. You gotta get those along with the gator.

The satsuma mojito was very good.
don't be afraid of the fish...the cedar planked fish was very good...they also have a combo plate that will let you try some of everything....Slacks and shirt will work but a coat would not be out of place.
You will enjoy your meal.

It's worth a try but a bit overrated imho. I had the rabbit and dumplings and I wasn't overly impressed. I think they get you on the sides. I think a restaurant like that should include a side with the entree if they are charging 20+ bucks for an entree.

My two favorite things were the moonshine and the fried alligator. We had three different entrees at the table and they were all decent but I can't remember what the other two were.

You'll probably like it a lot more than your wife does. My wife and I were in the elevator going up to our apt after we finished dinner. We were talking about what we had and a girl in the elevator with us asked if we just ate at Cochon's. Neither her nor my wife or my wife's friend (who ate w/ us that night) were big fans.

Of course, if nothing else, it is conveniently close to the food stamp distribution site at the Convention Center.

You could probably kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

I agree with Tiger Atty, it is definitely a very unique restaurant and nobody is doing what they are doing. I haven't had a bad meal there.
The hogshead cheese & Fried Pig Ear Salad is good and my favorite entrees are the Rabbit and Dumplings and the Cochon Plate (pork plate) with cracklins.

Forgot that it is one of the only restaurants I have ever seen moonshine and absinthe served.

Bouchon in Vegas does an unbelievable absinthe presentation. If you are ever there and into that sort of thing try it out. Akvavit at the bar as well.
