Anybody else had passport renewal problems?

I mailed mine 4/28 certified. At time said 8-12 weeks. Planning trip to Bahama's 8/31 (I put that on application).
They received it 5/4. It didn't go into processing till 5/28.
I called 2 weeks ago and sent them more $ for expedited service and mailing. I've paid for trip and it still show's in process?
Feel like I'm screwed as current lead time is 12-16 weeks and mail time can take 6 weeks?

I sent mine off back in late March for renewal and still nothing.

It’s almost like they don’t want people traveling

Are you saying current lead time for expedited is 10-16 weeks or just regular lead time?
I just paid for an expedited passport for one of my kids and they told me 4-6 weeks. We leave in 7.

I have seen recent reports of people getting expedited applications back in 6 weeks and in 12 weeks.
I don't know what the differentiating factor is.

We mailed our renewal applications in mid-May. They show them as received as of June 30, 2021 and it says they're
"In Process" whatever that means. Fortunately, we have no immediate travel plans, so I'm ok with waiting, but it is definitely taking quite a long time.

There’s been several threads on here and the OT on passport issues. Seems like processing is all over the place.

I sent mine at the last of May with expedited service. My trip to Cozumel was schedule for this week (17-24th).
At the time, expedited service was 6 weeks. The week it was scheduled to be returned, the service time was moved to 12 weeks for expedited.
I received it Last Friday - the day before my trip. However, I had already rescheduled my trip for the second week of August, because I could never get any response from Passport Customer service on if my service date is expected to be 6 weeks or 12.
Anyway, turns out better for me - American refunded me $180 X 4, plus $390 (for another family member flying from different location). Plus, the rates at the resort dropped, so I'm saving another $400 there.
You should be close - I think you'll get it in time. If you know your case number, you can find out where the passport is getting worked. There are a number of things you can do to get around long customer service wait times and get answers faster: contact your congressman, try the 1221 method, posted on the Passport Group on Facebook.

I'd be willing to wager a tremendously huge amount of money that you won't get it back in the next 7 days. Especially if you just sent it in within the past week.

Sorry, I meant 7 weeks not 7 days.(we leave in September)
It’s my daughters passport - my fault for not paying attention to her expiration date or realizing that they only last 5 years instead of 10 for kids. Worst case scenario if it doesn’t come in is that we leave the kids with the grandparents and it turns into an adult trip.

Wife applied for a new passport mid-June (expedited). She got an email yesterday saying they processed and she should receive it in the next two days.
