Does anyone know if there is a way to permanently kill ginger plants?

We are trying to eliminate some ginger without having to dig up the roots.....is there any other way?

From what I've seen, if even a tiny bit of the root survives your efforts it will likely grow right back. Only way I know of is to dig it up, but you have to dig it ALL up. Like bamboo, it can be quite pervasive/invasive (as you probably already know).

I've posted this before about getting rid of banana, hidden ginger and elephant ear plants.
I cut them down to the ground and EVERYTIME something sprouts, immediately cut it back to the ground and that stops photosynthesis that keeps the plants alive.
You will eventually kill the plants like that. I did it across the back of my yard when I had banana plants growing like crazy and along a side fence where I had elephant ear and hidden ginger plants.

Dig it, cut it down every time you see green, or cut it to the ground-cover it with 2 layers of gardening paper-cover that with rocks.

We cut them all the way down to the root and then sprayed with Round Up. Some of the patches came back in full force but some did not. These have been planted for over 10 years so digging them up would be a pain in the butt.

I initially tried digging them out but between the clay soil I have and the amount of roots involved, I'd have likely had a damn heart attack before getting 1/4 of the way through.
Cutting them at ground level works, but it is not quick and requires a bit of diligence to keep on top of it.
