Clemson's Swinney: Getting treated like he has the 'plague'

CLEMSON, S.C. -- — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney sees normally friendly faces avoiding his gaze around town. He also is getting plenty of "praying for you" texts and random letters in his mailbox, some from people he has never met.
That's what happens when a national football championship contender is struggling to stay above .500.
It's "like I've got the plague," Swinney said of Clemson's 4-3 mark.

He’s already making excuses to take the LSU job. Congrats LSU tiger fans, I guess.

Clemson outside of Dabo's and Danny Ford's time there is very forgettable. They should give that man way more leeway.

Yeah no shite. Clemson fans apparently think that anyone can come in there and do what Dabo has done.

He’s the Michael Scott of college football.

Never thought I'd see them turn on joel Osteen so quickly.

Dabo has had a forgettable career outside of Watson and Lawrence
Edit: for all the downvoters, he has a lower winning percentage than the following coaches without those two qbs:
Harsin
Kelly
Napier
Huepel
Klieman

Ok and so do most coaches without great QBs. Such a ridiculous narrative right now.

Yeah, not much history outside of those two coaches. Clemson fans has gotten spoiled with the success of the last several years. It’s a down and disappointing year but Clemson will be back. Fans need to realize a year like this was bound to happen.

Boyd was a very good QB. Not on the same level as Watson and Lawrence. He helped shape the start of Clemson’s success.

Yep Peach Bowl never forget. That game changed the trajectory of Clemson. A Clemson fan was at our NYE party and we almost kicked him out for treating that game like they had just won the SB.

Yup, it's like people forget that he somehow replaced his once in a generation QB with yet another, once in a generation QB.
Clemson is talented all around, no doubt, but Dabo was making the bulk of his hay against inferior competition and then was able to lean hard on those QBs to win some titles when it came time for the CFP.

They’ll fall back into mediocrity if he ever decides to leave.
Clemson has done a great job in building/upgrading facilities. On top of that, Dabo is one of the highest paid HC’s and Clemson is not afraid to pay coordinators top money. As long as Clemson doesn’t get an AD like Ray Tanner, they should be fine.

Fair enough. Definitely seems like a LSU-Saban scenario lite, but LSU benefits from being the only game in town in Louisiana.

No doubt. That was the turning point but I also think the Orange Bowl the following year is where Clemson made the full turn.

That game was when I knew we were never going to be anything again with Miles. It was a dark few years after that game. That season was such a gut punch following the title game too.

Clemson should be good to stick around the upper end of CFB for the foreseeable future. Obviously, all programs can frick around and pull a Tennessee or Nebraska, but Clemson has really taken advantage of this recent run and has all the advantages of an SEC team, without the asskickery that goes on in the SEC.

I had to look back at the box score to make sure I remembered correctly but for the life of me, I never understood why Miles was allowing the offense to throw the ball with under two to go with a lead.
