Will be in the Galveston area in a couple of weeks, for about 4 days. What are some kid-friendly things to do? And I have no plans to drive into Houston...

Moody gardens with the rainforest pyramid and aquarium
Pleasure Pier (no its not a sex themed pier!)
Schlitterbahn water park - might be too cold
Sea Wolf park to see a submarine and destroyer
Beach - kids love beaches. They really don't care that it's not 30A.
Ride the Ferry over and back to Port Bolivar
Fishing
Its about 40 minute drive to Space Center Houston (in Clear Lake) if the kids are into rockets and astronauts

4 days is an eternity there. Some decent old architecture you can tour.
