At this point all of the most reputable LSU media and board insiders are saying there’s mutual interest between LSU and Jimbo.

We know LSU will have up to $12 million a year to spend on a new coach, but we also know Aggy would match that number.

We know he and Woodward are good friends, and he was able to get him to leave a school once already.

We also know Jimbo looks at Baton Rouge and the LSU job sort of the same way Letterman looked at the Tonight Show. There’s an emotional draw there. But is he going to leave CBS at this point in his career? Hard to say. Is this all a smokescreen on Woodward’s part? I don’t think so but who knows.

I don’t know what the betting odds are at this point but enough out there to say it’s 2-1 or better that he’s the hire.

The reason I don't think Aranda, Tucker, Napier, or any of these other coaches will be at LSU is because Jimbo is higher than them on the list. And if offered, Jimbo will take the job.

I think it's clear by now that Woodward is making a play for Riley, and possibly one other "white whale" - but if he can't reel in one of those two guys, then Jimbo is there as the safety net.

$12m isn't a big deal. I think that reflects an old way of thinking.

Coach O makes $9m/year.

The TV rights re-negotiation adds $20m/year per SEC school.

Spending $3m of that $20m increase ($12m - $9m we're already paying) on a top flight coach is nothing.

I wouldn't even blink at a $14m-$15m/year number for a new coach, if its truly a whale (don't think Jimbo is worth it).

This also ignores the likely CFP expansion and increased revenue that'll bring.

In 5 years or so, $12m will be market value (if not low) for a top p5 program head coach.

We know that Sir Jimbo left the Fla St program in a terrible mess which they have yet to recover from several years later.

Pay Saban $20 for 10 years - hell make it $25 million for 10 years guaranteed
$250 Million is chump change

Other than Saban (and maybe Dabo), which coach is a whale worth that kind of money?

I think the "terrible mess" argument is overstated. Jimbo left FSU partly because they are not committed to funding football the way other schools (most notably SEC schools) are. Compare that to how he would leave TAMU if he actually left College Station this year to come to LSU. TAMU is objectively a much better program now than it was when Jimbo arrived.

I don't think you can blame Jimbo for FSU still sucking years after he left. Same problems still exist there.

It's time to go the money ball route and spend no more than half that, preferably about $4-5 million. LSU has proven twice now it can win with flawed coaches, no need to spend twice the market just to say you did.

I would pay Riley that. Riley is Joe Brady if Joe Brady had HC experience and liked to recruit.

I would also pay more for Chris Petersen than Jimbo if his heart is in it (maybe not $15m but north of $12m).

Mel Tucker is going to be our next head coach. Just read a glowing article of him by Scott Rabalais. He’s the AD’s designated leaker.

We know he is in College Station. We know he will coach a game Saturday. Most probably eat some food as well. Beyond that, it's all projection.

We know that Jimbo and his dysfunctional antiquated offense would be the reincarnation of Les Miles. Hence, it isn't a surprise that so many Les Miles homers are hoping LSU hires Jimbo.

That's it! Lane is the one Woodward will hire. Which is the reason why the smoke is there is little to no interest for Lane.

What we almost certainly know is that Woodward had his man before he let Orgeron go. Because the Florida win should have bought him another week. Yet it didn't?

As others on the list start interviewing elsewhere (Napier), or signing extensions (Fleck), or making not so vague statements (Dabo, Tomlin, Riley) then Woodward's man must be safely tucked away. And who it is will get clearer and clearer each week.
