That reddit sub really drove a lot of the wikileaks discoveries and the enthusiasm for Trump amongst some millenials.

Sure we're a lot of deplorable blacks, gays, latinos, etc there.
I bet Reddit wishes they shut them down months ago.

I think 4chan had A LOT more to do with it

Meh, The_Donald filtered 4 and 8chan down into a consistency that more people could digest.

This.
4chan found the tidbits.
Reddit was the "ground game" spreading it everywhere

Ehhh... so here's how it worked:
4chan originated pretty much everything, BUT 4chan is a mess to read in terms of format and is almost written in code so far as the amount of inside jokes and language used.
r/the donald served as a translator or filter to get 4chan's work to the masses ("normies"). I hate the layout, but it's better than 4chan, and there is less coded talk and more explanation, as well as more participation.
Without r/the donald, 4chan's stuff stays bottled up there for the most part. r/the donald was crucial to the Great Meme War of 2016.

It was basically a political extension of the relationship Reddit and 4chan have always had.
4chan developed the original content, Reddit provided a means for useful dissemination.

I think 4chan and Reddit really did have a big impact on people.
Memes are really effective in making it feel like the train is rolling. It feels as if there is a swell of momentum. And people, especially young people like to hop on the bandwagon.

Propaganda has always been an effective tool. The difference is that all of the propaganda that originated in this campaign did not come from a government or a political machine, it came from the masses and so the impact was far greater.
