1st, 2nd, and 5th payout format idea

So in my league we've had a history of those with no shot at making the playoffs giving up weeks in advance of the playoffs. This year, I offered my league to personally pay the 5th place winner's league dues in 2019. This gives everyone, even the 10th place team a shot at something deep into the season.
This year, decimated by iniury, the 9th place team in week 14, got into the 8th spot by picking up 3 players and starting them to win the tiebreak over the 8th place team by 4 points.
Both could have mailed it in, but nearly every team was making moves to the very end. That 9th place team then again picked up and started both Buffalo wrs McKenzie and Foster to make it into the Consolation Championship Game.
It does have it's downside as I'm in the championship game and all the lower seeds grabbed all the coveted waiver adds, but I've enjoyed that the league has stayed active to the end.
I don't want to subsidize the consolation bracket each year so plan to start next year with a 1st, 2nd, and 5th payout format. Hopefully they will all agree, but I wanted to run it by the board and ask your feelings regarding this format.
Do you feel that something is lost if there's no 3rd place money?

My leagues don’t do 3rd place money. It’s generally 1st, 2nd, regular season scoring champ. But I’ve wanted to do a small prize for the consolation bracket in the past. I think it makes for more fun when everyone is still involved til the end

I was in a league awhile back where the team with the most cumulative points over the last 3 weeks that did not make the playoffs got their money back. No 3rd place prize either.

The four teams who miss playoffs get to choose draft position the following year according to finish in consolation bracket.
It’s something.
It’s something.

Commenting to remember to bring up these ideas to my league.
