Well Delgado has been a FA most of the year. Kela was optioned Aug 1st. Meija has an 80 game suspension. These are active, starting players... Been doing it for most of the season.

If we are saying this is acceptable, watch for more tankers in the coming years

I'm not saying I agree with the philosophy (seems odd to throw away money for a bunch of years in the hopes of winning later). It's just hard to penalize anyone for doing it. He's not breaking any rules, and other than adding a new rule in the offseason that restricts minor leaguers and suspended players from being in someone's lineup, what else can be done?

We already have two bottom feeder penalties... we could make the draft a lottery format rather than straight reverse order of finish, I guess.

Obviously wouldn't go into affect until the next off-season.

And then there's that.

Im against this. Not fair for a team like LE's who got ravaged by injuries and finishes towards the bottom, but then gets fricked in the lottery by getting the 19th pick or some shite.

That's basically the only thing you can do to stop it. I agree that he isn't breaking any rules and he is free to throw away money if he wants too.

Yeh. I don't know about a lottery in baseball.

Rodgers, Swanson, Moncada, these guys are all two to three years away from callups.

Not sure there is a huge advantage there.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said.

My job is more demanding these days, and my kids are playing sports and doing other things during the week. I rarely even post on here anymore unless shite like today requires me to do so.

Worst case would be 12th... but yeah. It's just a point for discussion, that's all. Like said, we already have two bottom feeder penalties to help discourage tanking. If someone wants to play within the rules and tank, can't really stop them.

I would think a rule would be good

Does it change if it's 3 hitters?

The bottom feeder is nice but it's nice if owners go all out to win every week. Some teams are getting Delgado and Kela, some aren't. 10 teams are chasing playoffs

This is supposed to be pretty serious league. Maybe I'm a stickler for competition. I'm out the playoffs in rw and just 8-1-1 the 2nd place team. I'd expect everyone to try and win?

Im with you (i just held my own against the #1 team in TDBL), but where do you draw the line? What if Earl had traded for highly regarded prospects with MLB playing time and had them in those spots that Delgado, etc are holding. Would that be different?

Yeah, I agree with that change in the offseason. I think it's fine for a minor leaguer to be on the bench if they were sent back down, but not in the starting lineup. Just my 2 cents.

That would not be different to me

You go in knowing the roster restraints. You got the 10 MiLB spots and you got bench spots. Put the guys there. It's up to the owner to put a winning team out there every week and make the corresponding moves to ensure an optimal producing lineup

You're (not you specially) essentially telling me I can't even stash MiLB guys w no MLB experience on my MLB bench, but it's perfectly fine to stash guys who aren't on active major league roster in my ACTIVE lineup

With no type of requirements I can stash a full, active MLB lineup of injured or optioned players in my hitting spots. I can roster 4 or 5 SPs to meet an inning requirement and the rest can be injured or MiLB optioned players. And at the end of the day, I'll pay a penalty but still get rewarded the top pick

How should we go about fixing this? It's one thing to ask people to pay attention to their lineups and try to win each week. It's an entirely different thing to enfore that.

1. Bottom Feeder penalty (already enacted)
2. Rule requiring that starting lineups consist of only active MLB players that aren't suspended or on the DL. (to be voted on this offseason)
3. Innings requirement each week (already enacted)

What else can or should be done?

Maybe making players who are actually in the minor leagues minor league eligible. As in young vets who aren't minor league eligible anymore, but who are sent down because they are struggling.

Also, the adding of extra dl spots should get rid of some of the problems we had this season.

I don't think even a little bit of consideration will be given to this.

#2 would suffice

Am I off base here or what? Seems reasonable

Not at all. I think most of us have already come out in support of this rule.
