Which TE to target on waivers with Kittle possibly missing time?

Week 1 performance
H Henry (8 targets, 4 catches, 66 yds)
Z Ertz (5 targets, 3 catches, 26 yds, 1 TD)
J Johnson (11 targets, 8 catches, 76 yds)
J Smith (6 targets, 5 catches, 15 yds, 1 TD)
H Fannin Jr (9 targets, 7 catches, 63 yds)
M Mayer [only if Bowers misses time] (4 targets, 4 catches, 38 yds)
I personally value targets more than TDs after week 1, as it is more sustainable if looking for a long term solution. I'm leaning Henry or J Johnson. I liked how cleveland used Fannin Jr. but wonder if he can coexist every game with Njoku.

I’m wondering the same thing. Thinking about possibly picking up two in case that can’t happen.

Jonnu for me. Thinks he's most likely to get manufactured touches every week and be a primary red zone threat in that offense. He's an Art Smith guy

Scratch these two off the list.
J Smith (6 targets, 5 catches, 15 yds, 1 TD)
H Fannin Jr (9 targets, 7 catches, 63 yds)
Fannin because he won't duplicate that.
J. Smith is TD dependent and Friemuth (spelling?) could eat there.
I may go with Strange from Jacksonville. I think he stays involved.
J. Johnson isn't a bad choice either.

Heard some buzz pre-draft about Theo Johnson. I think if you're gonna grab two TEs that he would be a good stash.

Rattler threw 46 times and completed 27 of them...8 of 11 were caught for 76yds by Juwan and Rattler went to him on 2 of the last 3 plays of game with one being caught and knocked loose by Budda Baker that would've otherwise been a TD. It appears on the cuff that Moore is going to allow Rattler to sling it around the yard. I like that action, especially at a position as thin as TE.

All of what you said is what's making me lean Johnson. Also the fact that they just gave him a contract extension making him one of the highest paid TEs. Plus rookie and new-ish QBs tend to lean on their TE more as a safety valve.
My only concern is that last year he had big games like this then would just fade away the next...was pretty inconsistent. But that was a different coaching staff.
Henry kind of is what he is... high floor/low ceiling TE who will probably bounce on and off waivers throughout the year and be a serviceable streamer.
Which is what I might end up doing, just stream based on matchup.

I get it, I don't really want any part of the Saints offense right now either, but I'm watching closely with that many balls in the air Wk 1.

Eartz is who I put waiver claim on with Engram being questionable

If he's still available, go get him. Cleveland said people don't need to look at him as their TE2, but as their target #1 or #2. Said they'll use him all over the field. They say his lack of speed made him fall, but no one on the team can cover him.
Look at his #s at Bowling Green, particularly against Penn State (only 100 yard receiver against them all year) and A&M.
He led the NCAA in receptions and yards as a TE.

Sometimes it’s about following the money. The Saints signed Johnson to a three-year, $30.75 extension in March, and they followed that up with a meaty role in the opener. Johnson’s box-score numbers earn immediate attention — his eight catches and 11 targets were tops at the position in Week 1. But the usage also makes him a screaming buy — Johnson played 74-of-75 possible snaps and ran a route on 79.6% of pass plays (he also saw a 61.5% slot rate). The Saints seem intent on using Johnson as one of their three key downfield guys, and he can push for TE1 relevance despite a pedestrian quarterback room.
