Needs some Oscar's and DiGiullio Bros. in the top 5. Plus Mama Della's to represent that style

Makes me glad to be back home after my LSU days ended...lots of chains on that list.
Posted on 6/27/14 at 12:56 pm to ladytiger118
There are plenty of non-chains in town that should be on there... but that's what happens when the plebs all get a vote.

-Bulldog > Chimes
-Pimanyolis should be higher
-Fat Cow should be lower
-Not really sure why Mike Andersons made any list
-BR really has no coffee shops of note
-Jasons deli #2?
-Portobellos gumbo should be on the list
-Zorbas should be higher
-Reginellis pizza deserves to be somewhere on there

I know for a fact that this is not the case. Just look at the general public though. Bud, Miller and Coors represents 70+% of the beer market in this country. Yet we're surprised that the same general public picks mediocre restaurants as the "best" in the city?

Exactly.

I have a little inside information about how they do that list -- the ad department ain't got nothing to do with it. Matter of fact, only a handful of people working with 225 know who the winners are in advance and none of them are in advertising. They don't want it to look like a pay for play deal.
They go way out of their way to prevent ballot stuffing -- the nominees all come from online surveys sent to 225 readers, an outside company sorts through the results, then ballots with the most popular nominees are e-mailed out.

Anyone else surprised 225 magazine has lasted this long?

Oh dear. Open your eyes and look around your city. Locals can't afford the rent anymore and chains are popping up everywhere.

You have got to try the burger at Flemings. I dont care what anyone says, this is definitely the best burger in BR! Masons is pretty good too and so is the one at Portabellos.

I'm surprised it's not as bad this year as it has been in the past. Or maybe it's because they eliminated the "best french fries" category.

To be fair I just turned 21 so I still haven't been to any of the other places mentioned

Personally, I'm way more upset about Lava Cantina being ranked as the second best new restaurant in B.R. I've been there twice and it was pretty bad both times.
And Baum's Bakery is ranked too damn low.

Well, at that age, Bulldog is probably more your scene. At mine, I want a place a little more chill. And to not smell like an ashtray when I leave.

La reyna, MR taco and La Tiendita all smoke Superior food wise. I read thru that list and there are quite a few deserving places that were left off or should be higher..
