Sure but some just taste like well bourbon, and then the better ones are more balanced by sugar, bitters etc...

Myself, I like a smoked Old Fashioned. Can't think of one in NOLA but the Grand Hotel in Point Clear has a great one at their bar.

If you go, ask for King one of the better young bartenders in this city. If you are lucky he might have a bottle of his homemade cinnamon whiskey.

Peche and Herbsaint have excellent old fashioneds for restaurants. Bar Tonique is a great value. Sylvain is pretty good and great value at happy hour.
You can get one at Jewel, but try the night tripper instead- an excellent take on an old fashioned.

Desi Vegas has a very good old-fashioned, and one of the best I had was at the Boulevard on Vets. The bartender did not have simple syrup and made it with agave syrup, and it was fantastic. I had him use the Elijah Craig toasted barrel he had.

Yeah, the people who invented the modern genre and made it popular again.

Stay away from them.

Barrell proof has douchey bartenders too. Love the place, but they do.

If you want an old fashioned like my grandfather drank, Mandina's, they don't get fancy and it is an old school old fashioned.

OK, taste is all opinion, but in my opinion, Mandina’s makes one of the worst OF’s I’ve ever had.

First of all, when it is served, if it is red/pink, it is going to be a sweet mess.

Secondly, if maraschino cherries are involved, you’re in trouble.

I love Mandina’s for its historical significance and some traditional dishes. One side of my family almost always goes there after funerals in the city/Metairie. That being said, their OF’s are trash.

I submit The Backyard in West End. They distill their own whiskey… the aging barrels are on site, and you can purchase various ages and styles of their house-made whiskeys.

Whether or not you decide to use their whiskey or any of an impressive list of other offerings, they know how to make an Old Fashion: very strong, Luxardo cherries (mashed with orange peel), served over a single, large ice cube. They are the perfect example of the drink.

Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt. More flamboyantly gay the bartender the better they seem to be, I hate to admit.

Thanks all! I have about 30 or so suggestions.

Now will do some research for the last 10 or so and develop a rating system for them all

I bet the Husky makes a good one.

Sazerac Bar I'm sure its fine but be prepared to be 30 dollars for it and for it to take 20 minutes to get to you

They do. Have a burger and old fashioned happy hour every day.

Pretty solid bourbon selection for reasonable prices.
