I thought Joe Impastato was his brother. That's what I was referencing.

Some of the others you named are decent-good, but none are as good as Gino's in my view.

I don't really care much for Vincent's, though, and it seems to get some of the most love for "old school" Italian.

Yes you are correct, called Impastato’s is also good. Located behind the old Morning call across the street from the post office.

I haven't been to Marcello's since they were supposed to re-open at Southdowns.. Have they re-opened? How is it? The Lafayette location is outstanding.

You can’t go wrong with either Diguilio’s or Gino’s. However, Diguilio’s is tiny, and you’ll have a very long wait for a table on Friday night.

I'll try Sal and Judy's, but his brother's place in Fat City does nothing for me.

Sal blows his brother's place out of the water. Vincent does a bang up job as well. But Sal and Judy's is better than Gino's and I like Gino's .

Sal's Veal Marsala is the bomb, it's the best, The Veal and the Redfish Nicholas might be the best things you'll ever eat along with the Oysters Cinisi.

Vincent's comes in a close second. There is nothing that Worm ( Vincent) does that is not really good

I forgot about him.....very very good but I still think Mr. Sal has him. Sal and Judy's might be one of the best meals in the country. He ain't fancy and he gives you a gargantuan amount of food, but you will not leave the place hungry or unsatisfied......When he has it -usually on Saturday nighs, he has a killer bone in veal chop which borders on the criminal it's so good

Which is better , Gino’s or diguilio bros ? Any others better worth trying for traditional old school Italian ? Coming in Friday for the game and in the mood for something different. My wife and I always find ourselves going to Ruth’s for steak or superior for Mexican food . Thanks

I would actually say give Ruffinos a try. I usually do not get Italian there but I did last time I was there and the spaghetti and meatballs was top notch as was the lasagna. Im sure I'll get down voted here but i think its worth a try. Chef Peter Sclafani over there is very good.

Why can't it be both?

A place where they actually cook traditional Italian dishes, unlike a place that serves all you can eat salad and bread sticks..

No love for Irene's?

Moscas is probably as old school as you can get. One of the few cash only restaurants in the area, I believe.

If the parameters are traditional italian dishes than Moscas is not fit within that framework.

Didn't know Marcello's was re-opened in Lafayette. Is it the same family as the old Marcello's? I remember when it was in the little strip mall past Acadiana Mall. Tiny little place with red checkered plastic table cloths. Waiting line outside on weekend nights. Then they moved to Time Plaza and got caught up in the money business. Started using canned mass produced sauces and opened the big bar next door. Only thing decent was the music they brought in (and the wine).

Where is the place now?

Between those two, I’d say Gino’s. But both are great.

I’m about an hour away from a new-school Italian meal. Will do a review afterwards.
