I'm a Dons guy when it's not too spicy. It can be inconsistent, but I've had the best from Dons out of all of those places

You're literally the only person I've ever heard say that, and I worked in scott for 3 years. Everyone is either a Billy's or a Best Stop person. Nobody gives a shite about dons.

I won't turn Don's away, but my choice in that area is Billy's.

Day 1: Billys. Overall very good.
I had -
Boudin balls (both), I like the regular over the pepperjack. Excellent either way.
Boudin roll/wrap, my favorite thing there.
Boudin pistolette, not my favorite. A little chewy.
Seasoned cracklins, good mid afternoon snack.
Best Stop tomorrow.

I've had the boudin from Don's a few times. It's kinda hit and miss.

Sometimes it's absolutely amazing and other times it's just kinda meh.

It also seems to be better when grilled. Not sure why, just does.

I don't like the service at Billy's.

Never had Best Stop but my brother in law swears by it. He even has a can of their seasoning and he puts it on everything.

We have some buddies from Carencro that we meet up with at the football games, they always bring some stuff to grill. Thats where I first tried the boudin from Don's.

Not really your subject but they also bring this stuff called Chicken Diablo from a place in Maurice called Hilo's. I think I spelled it right. Boneless, skinless chicken thighs, stuffed with cream cheese and minced jalapeños and marinated in some sort of concoction. Never been disappointed in that. That stuff is amazing. Grilled it and just kept turning it every so often.

Good stuff.

You will be there for a few days

The only logical answer is to try them all and pick your favorite

Hope your hotel has a fitness room. Lol

Your taste buds are finely tuned. If you're around Lafayette on I-10, take the University St. Exit and head south into town. Take a left on St. John Street and Johnson's Boucaniere will be on your right. Their boudin is among the best in the Lafayette area but their pulled pork sandwich is worth the trip.. You really shouldn't miss it, if you're nearby.

I've lived in Scott right by all of these places for years. All are honestly very good. I'd throw Early's grocery store in there too. Id rank it -

Just boudin-
1. Best Stop
2. Billy's
3. Early's
4. Don's

Boudin Balls-
1. Billy's
2. Best Stop
3. Don's

Cracklins - All of them are really good. Can't go wrong. Gun to my head it's Best Stop.

Specialty Meat -
1. Don's
2. Best Stop (smoked sausage is on point)
3. Billy's

you're doing it right, but with so many good options in the area you may have to step up your boudin intake and double up places each day

The only bad thing I've had from any of these places is pepper jack stuffed boudin balls from Best Stop. It seems they mixed the cheese in with the boudin (instead of putting a cube in the middle of the ball). That then made the whole thing a gooey mess and it was awful.

OP I live in Scott and I go to best stop with Billy's a close second. Billy's has better cracklins

It's been a long day and I'll be leaving in the morning, so here's how my visit at the Best Stop went.
Smoked chicken and jalapeno sausage - probably my single favorite item from both places.
Cracklins - a little hard, but could've just been overcooked. I'm not going to kill them for that due to their great reputation.
Boudin balls - both - good, but Billys were better.
Overall I really enjoyed both places and I look forward to returning. I'll try some of the other recommendations next time. Thank you guys for all of the information.

This described my lone visit to Billy's. I'm sure it's good food, but there was a line out the door screaming a whole lot of nope. I made my way a minute North to Best Stop and was served right away. Always good.

Not a fan of Best Stop cracklins either. They're just little, overcooked balls of salt and pepper. Very disappointing.

If you're around the Lafayette area 3rd weekend in October, you'd probably enjoy the Boudin Cookoff, where you get to sample all the offerings from the Lafayette area. Bon Temps.
