Damn! Great Memory.
Yes, Ted Drewes originated it, I believe, and they are featured at The Lake Of The Ozarks.

Pepperoni's

If I remember correctly, didn't he close because he was sick of getting robbed?

We were in there one night when it got robbed. I loved the places. I could feed my growing teenage son and his buddies for $4 AYCE pizza, cheaper than home cooking. Heck, it might have been me who put him out of business.

I don't think the Jeffferson Hwy location could have been robbed more than the Monterrey.

Brunets and LaFondas are ones I was mentally running in my head. I'd put Brunets oysters with anyone.

And I'd put a board favorite Ronnie of Ronnie's Ribs head and shoulders above the previous. Man I miss her.

I forgot about Lafondas.

My family alone frequented the place for at least forty years on a pretty regular basis.

My grandpa used to go there with my mom and uncles after his bowling league game every Wednesday night.

Crazy that there are no Chi Chi's left in the U.S., but there are still locations open in foreign countries. Chi Chi's was the first place I ever had chips and salsa - thought that was so cool when I was a kid.

Veronica, her Mother and husband Jimmy are great peeps. I couldn't get through a meal without her Mom telling me to pray to God every day though. Before she closed, Ronnie gave me her business card, letting me know that she would still do catering, which I've yet to take advantage of.

Easily Ronnie's Ribs.

My runner up would be Montana's for an authentic Bandeja Paisa.

And to add to the frequent thread, The Village, Jack Sabins, Joeys - all Distephano restaurants, Lumms "Boiled in Beer" hot dogs, Wesley's at Broadmoor Theater, the Jewish Deli on Govt Street, Little Italy on Florida Street, Rips Huddle bar downtown, Cotton Club, Mickeys Golden Nugget, Europes -what was the joint before Dons on Airline? Two Chinese? Two Japs? Whatever. Bob and Jakes, The Place, above mentioned Giamancos, Phil's Oyster Bar, Blimpies at University Shopping Center, Chinese Inn on Airline, Mr. Wongs Peking Garden- first on Florida Blvd then Corporate Square-"no more zombie for you-you pull pants down!" Burger Chef, Bonapartes and Danny's Fried Chicken.

Good list. The name of the deli was Sigmund's as I recall. A couple of short-lived favorites were Macy's (just off Government Street) and Chicago's Steak House.

A favorite lunchtime haunt was Mike and Tony's on Scenic Highway. Half the state capitol could be found there half-sloshed on any weekday afternoon.

And Chalet Brandt, what a treasure that place was!

Mickeys Gold Nugget, and to the first responder the name of thee place was Ruby's(no Tuesday)it has been gone for at least twenty years off of College Drive. BR had a Ruby Tuesday site until just a few months ago in the crappy mall location off of College at Corparate.

Ruby's has been gone for about that long. The Bargas family did a good job with the place. Nothing fancy, but the food was good and consistent. You could always count on good BS from Trey and smart one liners from Papa Bargas, all while Mimi led the cooking troops in the kitchen.
