Got it.??
I never believe this. A lot of these cooking shows now act like they do this and I call total BS on all of them and their "surprise" ingredients. Being a great Chef doesn't mean you have the ability to whip something up immediately at the last minute with 0 time to plan. Then magically have the exact ingredients and exact portions right? Come on.
I think 90% or more of the time they act like the ingredients are a surprise the contestants already know and already planned, the surprise is all for the show. If you have a secret main ingredient and 20 minutes to cook, you not only have to be a great Chef you have to be a great tactician and super intelligent to figure out a dish in 30 seconds then execute it flawlessly. It simply doesn't work like that.

I could beat him in a foot race. Anything related to cooking and I have no chance.

Well in some ways they have to have a ton extra. For example, lets say someone says their dish is chili. There are a million ingredients that can go into chili. Different proteins, veggies, tomato varieties, beans etc. So in instances like that you would need a ton more ingredients on hand. So I think some is known and some isn't

shite no.
Also, to me he's second only to Giada's tits as the best thing about the Food network.

so if bobby flay can beat professional chefs 90% of the time, and the other chefs are making their best dish, there's only 2 possibilities:
1. Bobby Flay is far and away the best chef in the history of the world
2. the show has his name in the title, and it's rigged for tv purposes
(it's #2)

They act surprised when the challenger announces their signature dish.
How is it that they always have the ingredients already on hand when the challenger can choose anything to prepare.
Seems set up to me
Iron Chef, for instance, I believe they are both given 2-3 choices of what the secret ingredient could be a few weeks ahead of time so they can prepare for all of them. Then when its actually announced they are given a few minutes to put their plan together before the clock starts.

If anyone here has a shot at beating Flay, my money would be on Caplewood.

Anyone who is cooking the same thing every day for a living and can't beat Bobby Flay who is trying something for the first time should not remain in business.
Hmmm, reading more of this thread makes me think this is not the show I am thinking of.

It's definitely rigged. Bobby puts fresno chillis on everything so the judges know exactly which dish is his.

Food Network is such a sham now. It's just cake decorating and other dumb arse challenge shows.

I stopped watching it for that reason. That’s why I did not know Flay was still on.

Mike Serio from New Orleans beat him. Flay tried to put Mayo on a muffuletta.

90% of the people on here would endorse mayo on a muff.

Agreed, a muffuletta isn't something that you can change ingredients and still call a muffuletta.

You’re probably thinking of Throwdown which was basically a precursor to Beat Bobby Flay.
It’s not shocking to think Flay could beat another chef at their signature dish. Flay has been doing competition cooking for twenty years against some of the best in the world. Are there chefs that are better at what they do? That can do more? That are more creative? Sure. But in a competition setting those chefs are in unfamiliar kitchens, cooking for judges they don’t know. Flay is already awesome, plus he knows how to do it with the lights on, against the clock, and he knows what the judges expect.
