I think Catman and I have a similar feeling about the island.......(the most scenic and relaxing place i've ever been to).

I'm with you on that. Honestly, I used to not consider myself a beach person, per se. However, three years ago, my family and I joined two other families for a vacation there in a rented house near Chocolate Hole. I have not been to Hawaii or Tahiti or Fiji, but that trip came pretty close to paradise for me (minus some of the sketchy areas at night ). I hope to get back there soon.

My wife and I are very much beach people, so it was what we would consider paradise. Scott Beach and Hawks were unbelievable last time we were there.

The ease of getting there is also a plus (we flew Laffy to Atlanta to St. Thomas and a short boat ride to Caneel).

I've only stayed at Caneel Bay but might consider a house on the next trip to explore the other beaches......however I doubt that the serenity of Caneel can be matched.

My pager went off...

You've got to get a burger at skinny legs in Coral Bay. There's also Aqua Bistro nearby as well.

There's also a little shack called Chateaux Bordeaux where Centerpoint Road (Hwy 10...aka the road that crosses over the island) reaches its highest point. Here's the view for lunch...

Also, Francis Bay is my Wife and I's favorite beach.

Didnt get to make it there because I dont think cabs went there reg. However I was told by a local that you are almost guaranteed to see sea turtles there.

We had a Jeep, and yes there and Waterlemon had tons of sea turtles. We went to Francis three times and there was never more than 10 people at the beach.

If the OP is into an "adventure day" the hike to Rams Head and then a snorkel at Little Lameshur is a good time.

Yeah I've been looking at the beaches that are hike- in or boat access only, like Salomon Bay and Brown Bay.

Vie's Snack Shack is apparently off the chain. At the end of East End road. We didn't get to go since she was closed for the week.

So the trip was awesome, the food... not so much. I knew it would be expensive going in, I just didn't expect such bland food.

We ate at: Morgan's Mango, Lime Inn, Banana Deck, Zozo's, Beach Bar, JJ's, Cafe Livin, Jake's, Iguana's Grill, Rhumb Lines, Deli Grotto and Margarita Phil's. The nicest was clearly Zozo's. Morgan's Mango was marred by terrible service and bland dishes (everything came with black beans and rice). I had a really good ribeye at Banana Deck. JJ's and Jake's were out go-to breakfast spots and the Beach Bar was the ideal all purpose watering hole and lunch/snack spot, it was easily my favorite establishment visited.

I really enjoyed being able to walk around Cruz Bay, very easygoing, barely any panhandlers and a good tourist ratio.

I've never seen such perfect beaches. My favorites: Hawksnest, Francis, Maho, Honeymoon and Solomon. Trunk and Cinnamon were great, but there's just so many people there it kind of takes away from it. Caneel beaches were very good too, we just preferred the ones away from resorts. Driving on the roads was pretty interesting, except when I had to make a hard left straight into an 80 degree upward slope on a rain soaked street. That really played on my nerves.

Jost Van Dyke was a great trip, we had a few vanilla painkillers at Soggy Dollar Bar, but on a tip, went next door to Gertrude's where you can pour your own. For $10, you can put as much rum as you want into it, which was worth it after drinking a number of small watered down drinks.

All in all, I can't wait to go back.

Here's the Beach Bar webcam for those that have been

Glad you had a good trip. Sorry to hear about the food (particularly Morgan's. I enjoyed my dinner there, but it has been almost four years ago, and I may be viewing it through rose colored glasses of my overall vacation experience).

I need to get back there soon myself.

Key to Trunk is to go on a day when there are no cruise ships at dock on any of the islands. Otherwise its a major spot for people to take excursions to. Hawksnest has some incredible staghorn coral though. I didnt find the food bland at all. Most of our dining on our trip 2 months ago was in St Thomas though. Only ate breakfast at that Texas themed place near the ferry and a bar overlooking cruz bay.

I rented a dinghy and took it along the North Coast to Waterlemon Cay. Hit all of the beaches on the way back to Cruz Bay. That's the way to do it.

I also had a ridiculously awesome fish and chips on Cooper Island in the BVI. I wish I could track down the hot sauce they had there, serious heat and awesome flavor.

In the islands the rum is sold at retail about the same as bottled water or cheaper. Old Cruzan is from St Croix and it will scald your intestines, but do its intended chore.
