I think it's okay, but I actually think it could be a bit better.

I'm surprised to see it used as the poster child for everything that is better about the New Orleans food scene than Baton Rouge's. Not, that there aren't plenty to choose from.

I've really liked everything I've had from there. And I think, to the extent this means anything, it's pretty authentic. BTW, I've bought their bacon (drawing a complete blank on it a the moment) and it's really worth bringing home.

Benton's bacon from Tennessee. I get it directly from the source every summer (it's a little smokehouse on an old highway between Chattanooga and Knoxville).

It's fantastic stuff indeed.

Another Nola/BR food thread.

I am sure this thread will be the one that finally convinces people one way or the other.

Right. Because of the massive amount of wealth. It has nothing to do with whatever unicorn principled mumbo jumbo you always spout off about in these threads. It has to do with wealth.

New Orleans? Massive amounts of wealth?

what kind of normal sandwiches do you want to eat from there? or expected to find?

I've never had bad food from there, in fact everything has been above average. It truly is a gem.

It brings in money, yes. That does not mean New Orleans is a wealthy town in the least. Unless I'm imagining a budget deficit. This is a poor city.

His inane point was that New Orleans dining is good solely because of tourism $$, while scoffing at the (accurate) notion that our cultural history and the amalgam of immigrants in years past contributed to the diversity and caliber of our dining. Yes, because tourist dollars have propped up Mandina's and Dooky Chase and the innumerable restaurants which have been staples since the early 20th Century..well before Mardi Gras was a destination for college kids from Michigan

For every R'evolution or Brennan's there are a dozen restaurants which were founded a hundred years ago by poor immigrants and have been rooted in the New Orleans community ever since.

ETA: He's basically maintaining that the quality of NOLA dining is a symptom of the city's tourism and supposed massive wealth. The opposite is the truth..the city's dining culture enabled the tourism

I don't see anything inane, nor do I see anything inferring "solely" nor do I see "scoffing."

Care to rebut my argument with anything of substance?

ETA: Oh but what do I know, I'm just one of the 90% of New Orleans residents who knows less about our dining than someone an hour away

Why should I? You are the one that took my post well beyond its scope. Learn some logic before you spout off.

Completely irrelevant to anything I have posted.
